Hello movie lovers. Today I want to talk to you about one of the best science fiction movies I have ever seen. Starring Guy Pearce and directed by Simon Wells, who curiously is the great-grandson of the screenwriter and creator of the original novel in which it is inspired. Although it is not very well remembered nowadays, the film ended up becoming a great reference of the genre and an icon of popular culture. Admired and criticized by many, either for its practical and computer-made visual effects or its very debatable ending, this film marked a large part of my childhood.

Plot
The film is about a scientist who studies time travel, who claims it is possible, but no one believes him. However, in the end he manages to finance the project he has been working on all his life and goes in search of his girlfriend to present her the equipment he has managed to create. But, he encounters the tragedy that she has been run over by a horseless vehicle with an engine (a novelty at that time in the 1899's) and this leaves our inventor devastated.
Heartbroken, he decides to test his equipment one night, wanting to go back in time to see how to save his girlfriend from death. However, science itself plays against him due to the theme of paradox and the possibility that no matter how hard he tries to change the past, he always ends up losing his partner. His pain makes him travel back in time to the future, in search of the solution to his dilemma, while trying to heal his broken heart.
As he searches thousands of years into the future for the "end of mankind", he encounters many situations, as well as many endings. In one of them, a very futuristic and advanced time, he searches for answers about time travel and if anyone else has managed to do it besides him. However, he gets nothing, which makes him travel many years into the future.

La película trata de un científico que estudia sobre los viajes en el tiempo, el cual afirma que es posible, pero nadie le cree. Sin embargo, al final consigue financiar el proyecto el cual lleva toda su vida trabajando y va en busca de su novia para presentarle el equipo que ha conseguido crear. Pero, se topa con la tragedia de que ha sido atropellada por un vehículo sin caballos y con motor (una novedad en aquella época de los 1899) y esto deja devastado a nuestro inventor.
Despechado, decide probar una noche su equipo, queriendo regresar en el tiempo para poder ver cómo salvar a su novia de la muerte. Sin embargo, la misma ciencia le juega en contra debido al tema de la paradoja y a la posibilidad de que, sin importar cuánto intente cambiar el pasado, siempre termina perdiendo a su pareja. Su dolor lo hace viajar en el tiempo al futuro, en busca de la solución de su dilema, a la vez que intenta sanar su corazón roto.
Mientras busca miles de años en el futuro el “fin de la humanidad”, se encuentra con muchas situaciones, amén de también muchos finales. En unos de ellos, una época muy futurista y avanzada, busca respuestas acerca de los viajes en el tiempo y si alguien más ha logrado hacerlo, aparte de él. Sin embargo, este no consigue nada, lo cual lo hace viajar muchos años en el futuro.

I remember watching this movie on TV from time to time when I was a kid. Back then I was fascinated by the theme of time travel, the end of human civilization and what comes after that. A sort of post-apocalyptic world, if you could say, which the movie world wanted to build upon and replicate dozens of times in future films and/or series. However, today, if I watch it, I will feel it as a classic film, a repertoire of nostalgic moments and memories.
On the one hand, the special effects in this film are the most practical and simple that you will see of that era, being criticized many times by fans for being so unrealistic, since most of the places and beings that appear are made by computer. Also, there is the issue of the script, which many also criticized, comparing it with the successful original adaptation of the 60s. But, on the other hand, both Guy Pearce's performance and the story itself are among the most praised aspects of this film.

Recuerdo cuando veían de vez en cuando esta película en la televisión cuando era pequeño. En aquel entonces quedé fascinado por el tema de los viajes en el tiempo, el final de la civilización humana y lo que viene después de eso. Una especie de mundo postapocalíptico, si se podría decir, del cual el mundo del cine quiso basarse y replicar decenas de veces en futuras cintas y/o series. Sin embargo, al día de hoy, si la veo, la sentiré nomás como una cinta clásica, un repertorio de momentos y recuerdos nostálgicos.
Por un lado, los efectos especiales que tiene esta película son lo más práctico y sencillo que verás de esa época, siendo criticada muchas veces por los fanáticos al ser tan poco realista, ya que la mayoría de lugares y seres que aparecen son hechos a computadora. También, está el tema del guión, el cual muchos criticaron también, comparándola con la exitosa adaptación original de los años 60s. Pero, por otro lado, tanto la actuación de Guy Pearce como la misma historia que nos relatan son de lo más elogiado de esta cinta.

Nowadays, this movie would be for me a little walk through the past, as the visual effects and the many winks they make of the past and the supposed future that the film world of that time expected are for me now a very dear and appreciated memory. Despite so many criticisms and not being the best sci-fi movie today, it is for me a nice memory and a trip to the past that I really like and brings back a lot of nostalgia.
The story, to say the least, is something I would like to highlight as well, being practically the life and work of a genius and inventor who fell in love and subsequently lost what he valued most in his life. Everything that happens in the rest of the film is a mere result of a scorned mind, in search of an answer, in search of an end to his suffering and torture. But, in the end, we are presented with a conclusion that, while not the most pleasant for many (myself included) is certainly better than a sad and moribund ending. We can draw many lessons from this perfect cinematic work and icon of the science fiction genre.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 as far as the sci-fi genre is concerned.

En la actualidad, esta película sería para mí un pequeño paseo por el pasado, ya que los efectos visuales y los tantos giños que hacen del pasado y del supuesto futuro que el mundo cinematográfico de aquella época esperaban son para mí ahora un recuerdo muy querido y apreciado. A pesar de tantas críticas y de no ser la mejor película de ciencia ficción en la actualidad, es para mí un lindo recuerdo y un viaje al pasado que me gusta mucho y que me trae mucha nostalgia.
La historia, por decir poco más, es algo que me gustaría destacar también, al ser prácticamente la vida y obra de un genio e inventor que se enamoró y posteriormente perdió lo que más valoraba en su vida. Todo lo que sucede en el resto de la película es un mero resultado de una mente despechada, en busca de una respuesta, en busca de un final para su sufrimiento y tortura. Pero, al final, nos presentan una conclusión que, si bien no es la más agradable para muchos (yo me incluyo) es cierto que es mejor que un final triste y moribundo. Podemos sacar muchas lecciones de esta perfecta obra cinematográfica e ícono del género de la ciencia ficción.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de la ciencia ficción.

Is a very good movie
In the beginning the main character was doing the machine to try to save his fiancée's life, but there was always something that killed her no matter what he did.
I also saw the other one the classic movie from (1960), although just out of curiosity since I was looking for it was actually the 2002 one, and among the movies I prefer this one, since there is plot, romance, action...and not just being a spectator in a future world.

Así es, considero que este actor hizo un excelente trabajo al darle más sentimiento y fanatismo al protagonista de esta película.
Recuerdo hace mucho tiempo haber visto películas de viajes en el tiempo y creo que una de ellas es la que originó esta última. Lo que no recuerdo es la trama pero siempre me han gustado estas películas futuristicas que se adelantan a la tecnología.
Esta es la versión más "nueva" de la película original que lleva el mismo nombre y que salió en los años 60s. Y si, los efectos especiales y las vistas del futuro eran, en ese momento, una locura. Ahora solo es nostalgia pura.
