A Weekend At My Roots - Sunday Experience At My Parental Home

What a wonderful day, it is today again! Friends, I hope we have been having it cool and fun all along. Never let the alarming challenges and instability world-over blur your day. Stay on the peak of your game. Have a cheerful day. Life is good as long as you live it to make yourself happy.

Last Sunday (May 5, 2024) was an adventure for me. I made a trip home to visit my parents and siblings. I was having a church function to attend in my hometown. So, I took out some time to visit with my family, which I haven't seen for quite a long time now (possibly more than eight months.)

The struggles of life do not allow us to get to see each other more often. Moving on to establish one’s life (like a slogan among my people which says “To settle down”) tends to push us away from our ancestral home as we migrate to find footing for our lives and destinies. This kind of occurrence is always anticipated, especially when it is believed that it is abnormal for a grown up person to keep living in the parents house when he/she should have gone out to establish himself.

Since I left my village and my state to another state in search of life realization and fulfillment, seeing my parents (the family I grew up with) is not that frequent. We only talk more over the phone calls (many thanks to technology and mobile phones.)

I am a native of Oyo State in Nigeria. I am from Surulere Local Government precisely. Since I was determined to get an education and have a life better than the village lifestyle I grew up with, I moved from my home base to a neighboring state, Kwara State. I struggled to push myself through College Of Education and obtained my certificate (that we a dream come true - real fulfillment). Thereafter, I have been living in Ilorin, where I met the Love of my life and we got married. With the help of God and a little commitment from our side, we were able to build our house in the same city of Ilorin. 😀So, all the way from Surulere Local Government in Oyo State, I have become a resident and citizen of Ilorin, Kwara State all in Nigeria. That is why getting to my roots doesn't usually come easy. Most times we do that during the festive seasons of either Christmas or Easter.

I was built to be in a church program in a village close to my hometown on Sunday, 5th May, 2024. So, I decided that the distance was convenient enough for me to pay my parents and my siblings a visit. So, I went home.

Being home to see the old man, my Dad was even more important to me this season. As you know, in Africa we don't grow out of sharing and enjoying the inheritance of our parents whenever the need arises. I know that in a season like this Baba will certainly have a lot of money on him. That is because this is cashews season in our country. My father has many cashew plants in his plantation. In fact cashew is usually my family’s main source of income. So, stopping by my father’s house had some hidden motive inside of me. Thanks to daddy, I had some share from the bounty this time 😊.

There was good fun and plenty of food to eat at home. My little baby I went with had the fun of her life enjoying the goodies and foodies from grandma’s cooking pot. The pleasantries of being home to chat and enjoy interactions with siblings and friends I had grown up with gladden my heart. I spent the night there and returned back to Ilorin on Monday morning.

Thank you for your time in reading my story. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Sounds like you had so much fun reconnecting with your family. It's always nice and a day can never be enough when you have been away for quite some time.

Children leaving their parents and siblings is inevitable. I think that's how we grow up :)
