A loving greeting to all my Hive friends, especially to those creative minds and creative hands that every week share their beautiful work for others to learn and enjoy the beauty of art. The subject of art and crafts is something that I am very passionate about, as I have been working in the cultural field for about 16 years and I have had the opportunity to enjoy beautiful exhibitions, not only of great local artists, but also the work of humble people who from the depths of the most humble communities are dedicated to create from any artistic expression.
When I came to live in the community of San Lorenzo (my current residence) my reality changed drastically. After having lived and worked all my life in an urban context, I arrived in a remote village where cows still roam the streets and 30% of the streets are made of stone and sand. Access to art is very limited in these areas. There are elderly people who have never in their lives been to a movie theater or even a theater, much less an art exhibit. Most of the artisans see their work as a trade from which they live, but they ignore the cultural impact that their work has on the collective memory of the region and even of our country.
My partner @aly.squid and I set out to teach some creative workshops with several children. Aly worked with them on drawing, specifically cartoons. And me in the beautiful art of paper folding. The result was beautiful and the process was enriching. It was a space not only for creation but also allowed us to accompany each other and give us a nice support, great friendships arose and of course it was a warm welcome for our work in the town, which was new to us.
At the end of the workshops we decided to make an exhibition of the work of each participant. This was not new for us, because whenever we do a creative workshop we always love to close with an exhibition, as we know that it is the perfect opportunity for people to meet again with their work and being in front of each other they can revaluate their process and all their learning. Besides, it is the moment to show others their potential and commitment.
So we designed the exhibition with the whole group. Collectively we made the selection of the works and the reading it would have for the spectators. It was a simple task that brought them closer to the importance of curatorship. We accompanied them in the assembly and took care of every detail together.
For the day of the exhibition, as most of the participants were children, the guests were their families and some teachers from the community. It was really touching to see mothers, grandmothers and siblings being part of this beautiful sharing. Supporting the little ones to continue with the magic of creation.
It was beautiful to see how they kept them, because in the end that is what art teaches us: that the only thing that has real value is what comes from our imagination and that we express with our hands, voice or body.
As I said at the beginning, I have had beautiful artistic experiences and I have visited museums in different countries of the world. But nothing compares to community experiences when people spontaneously discover the artist or artisan within them and reconcile with the divine gift that each one has: The power to create.

"Los poderes creadores del pueblo" Una hermosa exposición de arte en mi comunidad (Ingles/Español)
Un saludo amoroso para todos mis amigos de Hive, especialmente a esas mentes creativas y manos creadoras que cada semana comparten su bello trabajo para que otros aprendamos y disfrutemos de la belleza del arte. El tema del arte y las artesanías es algo que me apasiona mucho, pues llevo unos 16 años trabajando en el ámbito cultural y he tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar de hermosas exposiciones, no solamente de grandes artistas locales, sino que también del trabajo de las personas humildes que desde lo profundo de las comunidades más humildes se dedican a crear desde cualquier expresión artística.
Cuando llegue a vivir a la comunidad de San Lorenzo (mi residencia actual) mi realidad cambio de manera drástica. Después de haber vivido y trabajado toda mi vida en el contexto urbano, llegue a un pueblito remoto donde aún las vacas transitan por las calles y un 30% de las calles son de piedra y arena. El acceso al arte es muy limitado en estos sectores. Hay personas de gran edad que nunca en su vida han ido a un cine o aun teatro, mucho menos a una exposición de arte. La mayoría de los artesanos veo su labor como un oficio del que viven, pero ignoran el impacto cultura que tiene su hacer en la memoria colectiva de la region e incluso de nuestro país.
Mi compañera @aly.squid y yo nos dispusimos a dictar algunos talleres de creación con varios niños. Aly trabajo con ellos dibujo, específicamente caricaturas. Y yo en hermoso arte de doblar papel. El resultado fue hermoso y el proceso enriquecedor. Fue un espacio no solamente de creación sino que también nos permitió acompañarnos y brindarnos una bonita contención, surgieron grandes amistades y claro fue una cálida bienvenida para nuestro trabajo en la localidad, que era nueva para nosotras.
Al final de los talleres decidimos hacer una exposición del trabajo de cada participante. Esto no era nuevo para nosotras, pues siempre que hacemos un taller de creación nos encanta cerrar con una exposición, ya que sabemos que es la oportunidad perfecta para que las personas se reencuentren con su trabajo y estando frente a frente revaloricen su proceso y todos sus aprendizajes. Además de que es el momento para enseñar a otros su potencial y compromiso.
Así fue, diseñamos la exposición con todo el grupo. De manera colectiva hicimos la selección de las obras y la lectura que tendría para los espectadores. Fue un sencillo trabajo que los acerco a la importancia de la curaduría. Les acompañamos en el montaje y cuidamos juntos de cada detalle.
Para el día de la exposición, como la mayoría de los participantes eran niños, los invitados fuero sus familiares y algunos profesores de la comunidad. Fue realmente emotivo ver a las madres, abuelas y hermanos formando parte de este bello compartir. Apoyando a los pequeños a continuar con la magia de la creación.
Al final cada niño se llevó su obra, fue hermosos ver como las resguardaban, pues al final es lo que el arte nos enseña: que lo único que tiene valor real es lo que nace de nuestra imaginación y que expresamos con nuestras manos, voz o cuerpo.
Como dije al inicio he tenido hermosas experiencias artísticas y he conocido museos en diferentes pauses del mundo. Pero nada se compara con las experiencias comunitarias cuando de manera espontánea las personas descubren al artista o artesano que llevan dentro y se reconcilian con el don divino que cada uno tiene: El poder de crear.
