I read: Reading the Newspaper is important.
Those who responded mainly say the same: it is if you want to hear the real news. Is it? I mean is that news real? How do you know? Who says what you read is true about other countries. I didn't receive an answer on my question except: I live on the countryside and a newspaper arrives me faster as going to the market.
I live on the country side too. I haven't read a newspaper for 40 at least 40 years, si don't listen to the radio and haven't watched the telly for at least 20 years. So how can it be I am updated? (Nope, it isn't the market with us people shop and leave).

If you want to avoid stress, skip the news and focus on your life.

Reading the newspaper is important?

Are you kidding me? All newspapers are the same, owned by the same people and journalism is not different than translating us news in a shitty way. Most likely it's a Google job and not even done by humans. The grammar is terrible and so is the editing.
The last thing you will find in a newspaper is news. You find what the national TV broadcasts, the horoscope, advertisement, who died (getting rare since people no longer care), there might be a column, a one to three-picture cartoon (Love is... or Garfield, Snoopy or some drawing no one knows what is meant by. Next, there's a section with stuff for sale or rent (getting rare too), small advertisements of salesmen willing to buy your old car. It depends on the paper if there are pages about houses, holidays, cars, finances or travelling.
Those days everyone had a newspaper, the morning or evening edition, are history for at least 40 years!
For a short time I had one but what's the point in receiving one if you lack time to read it plus most of the articles are not interesting.

What gossip magazines like Privé (private) and Story were blamed for each newspaper is guilty of today. Clickbait headlines (more headline than text) and fooling the reader with lies. The papers became half their size (tabloid) and the headlines are 5 times bigger, the journalist is google translate and editors no longer exist.
What to expect from a newspaper? It's a waste of paper and ink. If everyone is sooo concerned about their footprint stop buying papers like these. Go to a library, buy or borrow a decent book or write the latest news yourself.
Internet and Steemit are just like any social media good for it. Each lie, little piece of fake news is spread like wildfire within ten minutes.
People do not care about the latest news if it comes to truth, they care about gossip and believe what is told easier than the average fairytale.

Of course, they know people mainly read headlines which is a great way to manipulate the brain. Before you read the ten lines of the article your mind already decides if guilty or not.

That's exactly why some readers by now hate me, since no one likes to hear the truth which is: the newspaper is too expensive to wipe your arse with and reading it is a waste of time, you are brainwashed without noticing it.
Of course, that is what those paper boys know too, they know the average man can hardly read and write, doesn't read each word carefully let alone can read between the lines (those who gave up on the newspaper and television, just like me, decennia ago. Indeed that's why many papers are bankrupt or are close to bankruptcy no matter how hard they try to facelift and skim the thing).

Conclusion: if you believe the newspapers spread the news, tell the truth you are brainwashed.
If you believe to be updated, to know what's going on in the world you are wrong again! What you read is what you are allowed to know, those who rule want you to think and believe.
If you never learned to read between the lines, be a critical thinker, question, to search for more answers/possibilities you are the perfect person to subscribe to the newspaper.
The newspaper is no longer useful if it comes to dictating like my father did with me on Sundays. The grammar is too bad.

What to do with a newspaper?
An unfolded newspaper is hygienic, good to have at hand if a woman is in labour and delivers in a car, at the bus stop or in the shopping mall.
Use it for your pets (once a week we have a free one delivered the snake loves it but hamsters, rabbits and ferrets like to tear the newspaper apart. It gives them something to do and fights stereotypical behaviour.
The cat toilet or the rabbit just like small dogs can be taught to poop on the paper. It makes cleaning easier (toilet, floor, balcony).
You can use it to wrap presents, as origami paper, fold a hat, boat or whatever you like.
Or decorate your Christmas tree with it.
What we do with it most is... papier maché (paper mache), it's the only way to be creative with a newspaper without getting stressed and the headlines? Well, with acrylic paint you will no longer see it. Samba balls are easily made, I remember making them at kindergarten (all you need is a broken light bulb (Osram or Philips), newspaper and wallpaper glue (it works with flour too).
