College Visit, Offer, Decision, & Commitment

Hello friends and Hivers. It's been awhile and I've had an up and down journey this past 10 days or so. It's been filled with joy, being a bit busy and recently not feeling well.

So after a college visit on 6 May my son got a text from another college basketball coach(Bellevue University) the following day. It's a college he has been invited to a few times in the past. He let a friend (former teammate) of his know about his recent visit. This friend now plays ball for this college by the way and let the coach know about my son's recent visit. You see it was probably my son's way of forcing their hand, haha.

The text was them inviting him to to play some pick up games with the current players. They invited him that day but the timing didn't work out so it was set up the following day, 8 May.

I took some time off of work to get him to the college that day at 3:00 p.m. He received a text from one of the assistant coaches to meet him in the parking lot. This was more or less to ensure I accompanied my son, I'm sure.

Once in the gym I was eventually greeted by all the assistant coaches, current/former players and the head coach. They all came up to me on their own time not all at once. I thought it was a nice gesture by the players as this hasn't happened on any other visits I have been on.

So my son played for about 2 hours. Afterwards the head coach accompanied by one of the assistants wanted us both to come into his office. Once in the office the head coach cut to this chase and said that he was going to give my son an offer.

Like a coach often does it was all drawn up on a chalk board in his office, hehe. The tuition costs, fees, and room & board was written down first. Next was the deduction process which first included all fees paid, and all books covered. The entire tution cost was covered as well. The only stipulation was he has to maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.

Only cost not included is room and board but the good thing is the college is close to home. There is also no requirement to live on campus so he can live off campus or stay at home with us still. The coach emailed my son a formal written offer, that chalk board stuff wasn't official 😂

I could really tell my son was happy after this. I asked him what he thought and he said this is where he wants to be. He wanted to wait a couple of days to show he was considering it. Also out of curiosity he wanted to see what the other college may offer even though he prioritized this one more. Though it had no impact on decision this college is also my Alma Mater.

Last Thursday his high school coach received a call from another college that reached out again and asked if he was interested still. My son wasn't because it was from a community college and he had this offer at 4 year school.

It was a couple of days (Last Saturday) later he decided to commit. He decided he didn't want to wait on the other college offer because he was ultimately going to go here anyways. I told him to call the coach and let him know. Well he texted him and I told him that he's going to call you anyways. Dad knows, coach called him within a minute, hehe. It was shortly after that my son posted on social media with the picture above. He had a friend that edited this picture above about a month or so ago.

Well it's not completely finalized yet as he has to sign official papers, enroll and sign up for classes. He hasn't had much time to do that this week as it's the last week of high school. Oh he graduates today 🎓! Where has the time gone? Anyways I can say I'm a very proud father and I hope the boy excels both through academics and athletics.

Thanks for stopping by I really appreciate it. Take care, stay safe and have a great weekend. Until next time!

You are a supportive father.
You know since high school to college, to looking for boarding houses, I managed my School stuff and enrollment by myself haha..
I somehow envied back then those students assisted by their parents.
Your son is lucky to have you 😊

Thank you and I'm glad he will have it easier than me. I had to do military service to get an education.

Great! So decision time arrived and it seems the choice is the good one! Hope he will be happy and lucky during all the time in this college, new experiences to live abs tell you!!! Happy for you both 🤗🤗

Congratulations on your son's graduation! and how nice that he is going to the college he wants to attend. Time goes by so fast and children grow up in no time, don't they?
Best of luck to your son in his new stage!

Yes they grow up fast and time flies by. Thanks for the wishes on him.

Salute to this dad!!!!
You're the man, big bro!!!

Thank you country girl! In a few years you will be right there with your daughter 😊

Congratulations, you received an ecency upvote through the curator @sahi1. Keep spreading love through ecency

Thank you for support @sahi1

I'm really glad to read about the new development. I can feel how proud you are and you should be, because kids these days can take the wrong way too early. Congrats on the scholarship and enjoy graduation! 😀

Thank you friend. Graduation ceremony was a proud moment but very long and hot. I wanted to get some pictures of him afterwards with me but the first thing he did was get rid of the gown and such when it ended because he was sweating. Fortunately I took some of him before we left at home. It was windy out, haha.

Those offers are such a struggle as a kid and also as a parent! Definitely requires lots of aspects to be taken into consideration before making a decision.

I agree it can be for some. Fornately for him it all played out perfectly for him and the decision was a no brainer 😊

Congratulations. 😊

Thank you very much 😊

You're welcome. ☺️☺️

Salute to you Bob for being supportive to your beloved son, as always.

Thanks Jean. It was a proud moment hearing his name being called for the last time in high school and receiving his diploma.

He chose the one that's more convenient. Easy for both of you. Time flies really fast. Just like that, they're all grown up. Congratulations to both of you, he wouldn't reach that milestone if not with your support and guidance.♥️

Thanks he chose the right one and the same one I would have chose. Now I got to fix the car I have for him, my previous car 😊 Got some earning to do first!

They do grow up so fast but we always see them as our babies hehe. Your daughter graduates this year, right?

Take care and hope you have a great day off tomorrow. Oh btw I'm looking for you to chime in GC in discord 🤪

My daughter is also graduating. I still see her as a baby😣😅. I cannot believe how time flies, and I've missed a lot of chapter in her life.
I just read your messages their in discord, sometimes I'm too shy to mingle with everyone there.😆

I use to be the shy type I get it, sometimes still am to an extent. Can always keep it simple with good morning, good evening, say how you feel..I'm sure no one will make you feel uncomfortable. I would engage if on and I don't bite, haha

😅😣😣hehe.
