I just realized, thanks to the daily prompts in this announcement post, that the 15th May of each year is celebrated as an International Day of Families. Wow! I wasn't even aware there was anything like that. A part of me is surprised that I never considered there would be a day that is carved out exclusively for the celebration of families all over the world.
I know how highly I rate family and I'm quite traditional in this approach. I just can't help it. There are moments I see someone act and the next thing that comes to my mind is "he/she is this way because of his/her family background". This works both ways, regardless of if the person's action or behavior is admirable or disgusting. And, you would be surprised to know that the way people act is always traced back to the sort of family they have.
When these individuals get exposed to society's, they go on to display the things that characterize their family background and in most cases, the level of decency that's visible in a society as a whole are always proportionate to the level of decency that's visible to the families that make up that society. So, family has a lot more impact on the world than a lot of people can imagine.
I will go on in this discussion with the assumption that anyone who's reading this has a family. I genuinely hope that's the case.
The availability of functional families is in everyone's best interest and I'm saying this because it's self-evident that anyone that has the choice of being raised in a functional family would always opt for that instead of having to be raised in a family that's a shadow of what "family" is supposed to be. A lot of adults who are moving around with baggage of emotional trauma are exposed to that because they were raised in a dysfunctional family.
Basically, a functional family is one where the Dad accepts and fulfills his responsibility as a Dad while the Mum does hers as a Mum. It's a family where both parents join hands to build their home and make it a place that's conducive for raising kids in character and learning. I know that a family that's structured in that way is mostly better for a husband, a wife, and also for the children that will be born into the family.
I know folks who think that a family is a burden...
Oh, Yeah!
And, they sound almost convincing when they tell you that they are shouldering all the burden of their family. The responsibility of taking care of their parents falls on them. And the same applies to the responsibility of taking care of their siblings. In addition to that, they have to take care of themselves and inflationary pressure is hitting them hard.
I'm not making a case for or against such people. However, I know that nothing good comes without a rough side to it. Yeah! Family can be a huge responsibility especially when you already have a family of your own to take care of. Aside from the financial responsibility, a whole other responsibilities are attached to these. So, it can't be easy.
But, if you have been to the depth of catastrophic situations where you need people or just someone to support you or be with you, those who are fortunate to be blessed with a good family usually have some inspiring "family support stories" to share about that moment. So, regardless of the burden that comes from having a family, I would always be glad for the family I have.

I would always be glad of my family too. I love my family and how things are structured around love and unity. My late Grandmother made sure of these two principles before she died and we are walking in that path today. Many times, I feel so sad for some dysfunctional families because many of them do not wish to be there but it is their responsibility to do it right, isn't it?

True. It's a pity that a lot of people are from a dysfunctional family. People like that do not really enjoy family in it's real sense. Yet, they try their best to be there for their family.
When I see how dysfunctional some families have become, it makes me really grateful for the sort of family I have. I'm glad I'm born into a family that's united.

Sometimes, it’s better to cut ties with some family members because they will eventually ruin your life. Family is important but sometimes you have to put yourself first.
True. I'm all about that life. There are people in my extended family who can't be in the same room with me because I already bid farewell to them because of their lifestyle or character. So, it's very true that there comes a time when we have to cut ties with family.
As for my immediate family, I'm always praying for us to continue living in unity and love.

Family is a blessing and yes family is a burden when it comes to settling bills and I think this why most people just cut off with family because they want to be burden free.
I like your perspectives, regardless of the burden, it is important to still stick around after all, we too were once burden to them 🤷
True. When it comes to billing, a lot of people choose to cut off from families because they do not want to face the billing. However, anyone that comes from a functional family structure will always be proud of being born into a family.
If we check deeply deeply, we'd see that eventually everything has a day for their celebrations.. it's my first time hearing of such too😂

Wow I'm also in this boat, I don't know about this celebration. It's actually a good thing to celebrate the family, because most of us would not be where we are if not for our families.

True. Celebrating families is something that's worth doing. Families play big part in the things happening in the society and a day that's carved out for family celebration is worth being known and celebrated
