Dude, this just unlocked a memory for me, I think I had erased this character from my memory haha, when I read your post I remembered when I was a kid I had the toys of the whole gang of those characters, the thief, a yellow female bird and grimace haha.
I didn't know that mcdonalds had ventured into video games, honestly it's not bad at all, I would play it on an emulator on my cell phone 😄.

...That whole meme aside (which comes from how unfortunate it seems that some people actually had got poisoned by the shake, hence the "drink and die" format), which is funny to think it overshadowed the event/game, the fact they released a bona-fide Game Boy Color game that even has an error screen if played on stock GB hardware and everything is quite cool.
Grimace was one of my favorite characters in the McD's world. Such a strange and cute character. The game looks like something that my old ass could probably handle to play as well!
The skateboarding level, I believe it is just level 1, is tough due to him keeping mementum and you have to jump to change direction quickly (such as when grinding). It is a fun little game though, not all that hard once you get it dialed in.

I had forgotten about the other games that McDonald's had licensed out, remembering them when I researched this article. Some were quite good too.

I did not hear about the poisoning thing, I did see some TikToks about the drink, they portrayed it as a horror thing, maybe they were connected?
