Hello Hive!

Is what I should have said at the start of the video! Instead, it was "What's going on Hive" with the "what's" being said before the camera had gotten it's shit together and started recording.

Anyway, who needs words when you have a big stick and an empty beach?

The new year has started indifferently for me. On the plus side, I'm easily a month into not smoking tobacco and I've not had any booze since the 1st January (afternoon and not just into the early hours of the new year, oops). The tobacco was easy enough, but I've failed after years without on a couple of occasions and so I could find myself rolling a nice reefer at any point. Not today though.

Alcohol I can do without very easily, as long as I stay in my apartment and invite nobody around. That's how you do dry January isn't it? There's beer, wine, and spirits in the house, but I tend not to drink alone these days and so there it will sit, for at least another 15 days.

So that's good. Also good is the exercise I've been doing. Jogging, balancing, spinning, yoga, HIIT, planks, and more I reckon. Trying to do something, even if it's only 15 mins, every day. Apparently, those that exercise and drink and smoke will likely last longer than lazy git who doesn't smoke or drink. I am firmly on the hammer it and try to work it off team!

On the downside, relationships! I'm so crap with them, be it friendships or otherwise. This new year I contacted old friends and have managed a catch-up with some, but for the most part I struggle with distance and sorta get on with my own thing - which is also known as messing up relationships with those close by! Disaster!

Moving on, the other thing that's not ideal for a stress-free new year is my current workload. It'll be 5 years in November since I started there, just prior to covid, and it's already been 3 years since they allowed me to move to Mallorca and work fully remote. I shouldn’t really be complaining eh, with a sea view 'office' and an empty beach for a back garden? I will though: p Two weeks of intensive training and trying to fit other main duties around this, absolute shite. It means I'm not finished until it's gone dark and cooler, and then there less time for Staff practice - but not today!

What's in this video?

It is me, showing you my current Staff ability and skills. I drop it a lot, hit my head and glasses, and look pretty unbalanced at times. It was very kind of people to compliment me on a 3 second GIF or two in recent posts, but I think you need to see where I'm really at - outside of an edited loop!

I'd like to post much more of these videos as I do record a couple of minutes each day. You're all gonna get bored quick though so I'll try to keep to a minimum - once a week or when I've learned something new maybe? Right, I'm waffling now (now!?), so I'll wish you all a lovely day and night.

Cheers

Ash

Sort:

Some good moves there, I like the elbow move the best.

What's cool about this, dropped stick/stave and moves that didn't work out perfectly, is that you'll get better the more you don't and have a record of that journey...and then #ninjastickmaster

Thanks dude!

Yeah, the right elbow roll is probably the contact move I can perform best right now. The left side on its own, or the combined right then left are still pretty ropey!

The video footage is really useful to me as it's my main feedback most days. This one has had more replays by me than most as it's been uploaded to Hive - it's not my best effort, but it is where I'm at for today.

Cheers!

Videoing this sort of thing is a great way to identify issues. I did it a lot, videoing up close my trigger-pull when training for long range shooting. It's amazing what one sees when it's played back in slow-motion, all of those little things, when seen and rectified, are what makes someone better.

Those adjustments for you must have been tiny too. Fair play.

For me at present, the camera says YOU HAVE WORK TO DO!

Yeah, small adjustments but a mile away they can mean missing by a long way.

New year they say comes with new stuff and new things, so when you said the new year has started indifferently for you, sounds good to me.
Alcohol is best shared and enjoyed among friends, i so wish i could earn a sit for the 15 days, beer is fine, wine is good but the sound of spirits is amazing 🤸🤸 it gives a feeling and a cruise of a kind.
Good skills with the spinning, I wish I can get some class 🙈, your video will give me a start for some practice.

You are right ✅️ On both points above, thank you.

Videos like mine or my mates in the future, or the hundreds elsewhere right now can teach you - slow them right down. That said, I was taught the basics in person by a brilliant teacher.

You can start with a brush/broom handle!

Ok then, i will start tomorrow with the brush/broom handle, I will find a way to update you of my progress 🙈😊. Thank you for the tips.

Yeah...big stick, empty beach, those moves! Let us see more. Joking! BTW, I still didn't got to master the Poi flowers. I am in Kuala Lumpur now and maybe I find someone more skillful to teach me the ....ways :) With my gf...so I have to be a good boy. I like that beach though and I think you handle the stick way better than I am.

It really helped me having an excellent teacher, now it's all about practice and getting tidier - I'm only 2.5 months in though!

You could get someone to teach you and your gf the ways? 😉

Yes, I think a mentor, a guide, a teacher could give me more input, more motivation and clear instructions. My gf is somehow not interested into the practice but she likes to...watch...I shall look for someone here for the next few days. Why knows? I might even find someone at our hotel. They have different local services here at our disposal. Thanks so much!

This is really great, I can’t even attempt that as I’d be terrible.

Hello Abh hope you’re doing fine, we miss you and the engagement show though. Stay blessed friend🌸

Aww, thank you for your kind words and thoughts of the EL :)

You are most welcome😃

It seem like you are trying to give up smoking since you’ve not done any since the beginning of this year. It is fantastic and I love the way you were rolling the stick
You’re so skilled
That’s a nice one!

Trying my best, thank you!

That's a great way to track your progress and down the road you will have a video series of your whole journey. It would be nice to look back on after it becomes second nature to you. You're pretty smooth as it is!

Yeah I'm enjoying it and the vids are helping me improve :)

Getting smoother, but you'll see when I put something up with my teacher - years of practice apart!

Years huh?...You'd best get cracking as you've alot of catching up to do😂

It won't be long and you will hold your own while spinning side by side.

Your abstaining from those two harmful substances is truly the right decision. I hope you find the strength to continue doing so. I think the skills you are showing off are quite commendable. Have a good day.

Yes a good chance for my body to heal :)

Thanks, have a great week!

doing well ;)
keep it going ;)
time and effort…
progress is obvious/..
🙏

Thanks dude!

Its a good practise with the stick on this empty beach and it must be fun.

I'm easily a month into not smoking tobacco and I've not had any booze since the 1st of January

This is an encouraging and great start to the year. Is this a New Year's resolution for you?
