Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend! 😁

Following a couple of grueling weeks of training I can finally relax. There is a final exam to take but it is open book, multiple choice, and progress can be saved so I'm hopeful that with this help I can pass and possible add this application to my CV. I'll not bore you with Veeva Vault but I do think it is one of the best cloud based document management systems around - it's just a bit tricky to get your head around. Mine anyway.

Anyway, enough of that for now and time to introduce my newish staff which has been sent from Home of Poi in New Zealand. or a distribution center in Hong Kong. The Staff actually arrived before Christmas but one of the LEDs packs was faulty. Having emailed Home of Poi regarding the issue, the light then started to work (so I emailed them again) and then didn't switch on the following day. I emailed Home of Poi for a third time and attached videos of the faulty LED pack, and they agreed to ship a new item free of charge.

It may be different elsewhere, but custom charges here in Spain for items posted outside the EU are pretty hefty. Having paid around 30 euros to ship Staff in the original order I had to pay another 20 euros to Spanish customs. The LED pack replacement must weigh 300 grams tops and was another 5 euros 18 cents in charges. I'd had a good look for Staffs shipping from the EU but couldn't find a supplier - the UK and USA seems to be the best place to purchase flashy spinny gear!

The video, which is very rough and ready because I'm half asleep, have cold feet, am not so hot, and many other excuses, was shot at around 7:30 am this morning. I didn't notice until I'd made my way to the sand that it was beach raking day and that there was a tractor travelling up and down the beach 'ploughing' the sand. I should use the tractor as an excuse too - it's a bit noisy as you may find out.

As far as Staff practice and progression I feel that I've plateaued a little. For the first month or so I could feel and see improvement every day and this was hugely encouraging, but the last week or two I'm noticing that my basic (and really quite key) hand rolls and switches between hands are not very smooth. The switch between hands needs to be much more fluent to keep the flow/speed/movement of the Staff controlled, and I think I need to go back to the basics again to really tighten passing the Staff between hands.

My guru though, who should be arriving on Hive soon, does keep reminding me that I've only been handling the Staff for 3 months, and that the fluency will come in time and with practice. Well, I (now) have the time, and a really awesome location in which to play.

Have a good weekend all, I hope you can find the time to relax and enjoy your time.

Cheers

Ash

Woah, that staff is so mesmerizing. I also can't help but admire your background. It is so beautiful and unreal that it actually looks like you are using a green screen background.

I think you're already good. Maybe if you can spin it a bit faster, that would make it almost perfect. Are you aiming for the level of performers, like those that can twirl with fire at the end?

it actually looks like you are using a green screen background.

I thought that at one point the background didn't look real :O

Making the movement more fluent is my first goal, and then build up the speed. I've had a go with a fire Staff - quiet scary with the extra heat and noise but I think i'll buy one soon :)

Oh that would be awesome. I've watched a performance before, and it was really cool. If you're aiming for that, then yeah, you still have more to work on hehe. Good luck, and I hope to see a video of that soon.

Wellll no worries about the noises or stuff, the lights have hypnotized me haha

BTW Great performance n the background behind you, just beautiful!.

You found the right performance to watch!

Absolutely! Have you ever done it at night?

Those LEDs are mesmerizing and with the backdrop of the sunrise and the water and the Isle (I forget what you called it), it is quite serene and peaceful, until that damned tractor came along lol. How dare he photobomb your video!

With the I've got flashy lights too - very rude!

Twirling around with sunrise in background looks great, noisy man-made machinery enough to distract. Have an amazing day!

Quite distracting!

Thanks, enjoy your weekend!

Getting strength with fitness, daily use helps using an implement like that working upper and lower body, snazzy lighting!

Yes I think both the Balance Board and Staff are a great exercise when combined.

... snazzy lighting!

I think so, and even better when it's pitch black :)

Simply have fun!

Congrats on finishing your training and good luck with your final exam.

Open book and multiple choice? Sounds like it will be an easy one. Just make sure you know where to find the answers as quickly as possible and you are good to go.

I'm glad to hear that your newish staff from Home of Poi finally arrived, even if it did come with some customs charges. At least they're sending you a replacement LED pack free of charge.

And don't worry about the rough and ready video, I can still see your skills on display.

They do give you every chance to pass.

I'm happy to have videos of mistakes, hopefully there will be visible improvement in time.

Its good to see you doing it flawlessly and its all because of your dedication. The sunrise view is nice and place is also good

Oh wow! This is mesmerizing, with the sunrise. But the tractor would have at least got some manners, however, it's still beautiful.

I am sure you will definitely pass your exams, wishing you best of luck.

You're so talented, man, are you sure you're not a Jedi? It's even more impressive that you did it at sunrise. The sound of the seagulls and the redness of the air is wonderful.

I love the stick because of the light, lol
I love your performance. The noise, sunset and everything is just so perfect

!LOL

They eventually fired him.
