A trip to beautiful renaissance Ferrara part 2. The Cathedral and the Sebastian Pub.

Here I am at the second part of my little trip to Ferrara, today I'm taking you to another of the city's symbolic places, its cathedral and to one of the nicest pubs I've ever seen! If you want to see my first post on Ferrara where I tell a bit about the city and its history go here:

But let's start from the beautiful cathedral of the city which we arrived at in the evening, the cathedral is unfortunately closed at the moment but even just the exterior is truly magnificent, it is a cathedral dating back to the twelfth century, started in Romanesque style and finished in Gothic and Baroque style , a mix of styles that makes it unique, you can see it well from the magnificent facade. It is dedicated to San Giorgio and is still home to the bishop's palace to which it is connected. It was heavily damaged during the Emilia earthquake which is why it cannot yet be visited but in the past it was the main venue for major celebrations. It has undergone numerous improvements and restorations over the centuries and was also hit hard in the Second World War.

The facade is a truly fascinating riot of sculpture and reliefs.

Then we continued through the enchanting streets of the city until we arrived at a pub known for its particularity of being a maritime theme and located on a boat, this pub has an interesting history it is said that initially in the nineties it was a smuggling ship seized and that the owner fell in love with it and had to fight to have it and above all to move it to the dock. He worked on it for many days, modifying it, fixing it and making it suitable for making a sailing pub, looking everywhere for pieces of ships or objects relating to sailors to include in the furniture, the result we see today is really beautiful, it seems to be in a hideout sailors!
As soon as we entered we fell in love with it, the atmosphere is really pleasant and they also have a nice menu made up of various appetizers such as chicken wings, mixed fried foods and various types of croquettes, many varieties of pizzas from the most classic to the most particular and creative ones with names inspired by sea novels or ports or ships, all with a navigation theme! In addition there are meat and cheese platters, very rich salads, first courses from carbonara to cacio e pepe and also various types of burgers and appetizers plus obviously artisanal wines and birrw, nothing is missing.
For beer we took a blache de Bruxelles for me, a creamy and slightly spicy blonde beer and an Erdinger, a German weiss beer, very good and full-bodied. We then treated ourselves to a mixed fry and two pizzas for me, a cooked mozzarella and mushrooms quite simple and delicious for my husband, a more special one called like the pub with onions, smoked burrata, tomato, mozzarella and speck, a real pleasure!
And here unfortunately my little trip to Ferrara ends, with many good memories and an excellent gastronomic experience in a unique place!
