The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 49, Post #2

in #hebrew20 days ago

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 49:1-18

We were in the midst of hearing the last words of Israel because he was old and dying. He had called his sons to be present as he states a prophecy or blessing for each of them. Today we go on with that same topic.

Jacob had gotten to Y'huda (Judah) in the reading last week, and he is still speaking to Y'huda today as we begin to read. He speaks of Judah's clothes being soaked in the blood of grapes and his eyes being darker than wine, his teeth are whiter than milk. Everything is a comparison, it seems.

We get through Zebulun who seems to have shipping and ports in his future, Issachar who starts his future as a sheep herder and moves on to forced labor somehow.

Then we get to Dan who will judge his people. "Dan" means to judge, as a matter of fact, Daniel means "God is my judge." Then it talks about Dan being a serpent or viper who bites at the heals of riders on the path and causes the riders to fall backwards. And we finish this portion with Dan waiting lee-yeshua-te-CHA or "for God's Salvation" and it is not at all odd that the savior's name is Yeshua.

We will cover the prophecies and blessings related to the last five brothers next week.

Today's reading

English

11
Binding his foal to the vine
and his donkey's colt to the choice vine,
he has washed his garments in wine
and his vesture in the blood of grapes.
12
His eyes are darker than wine,
and his teeth whiter than milk.
13
“Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea;
he shall become a haven for ships,
and his border shall be at Sidon.
14
“Issachar is a strong donkey,
crouching between the sheepfolds.
15
He saw that a resting-place was good,
and that the land was pleasant,
so he bowed his shoulder to bear,
and became a servant at forced labour.
16
“Dan shall judge his people
as one of the tribes of Israel.
17
Dan shall be a serpent in the way,
a viper by the path,
that bites the horse's heels
so that his rider falls backwards.
18
I wait for your salvation, O Lord.

Greetings @hebrew ,

Thank you for today's passage.

Oh yes...'Dan' ..is the scripture referring here to the fact that the false Messiah and Ruler of Israel in the Great Tribulation will be from the tribe of Dan...or is it more than that?

Thinking on these things...appreciate this post.

Shabbat Shalom (does this mean...Peace be with You.)

Shabbat Shalom
