Watching a beautiful Wood sandpiper in the shallow water

Wood sandpipers are one of the more common water birds here in Austria. I already found them on several spots either at the water power plants of the danube when the water levels are low, at several spots at the Inn River and at a gravel pit and of course at Lake Neusiedler in the eastern part of Austria. Especially during spring and autumn migration these birds pass Austria and stay here at the rivers and lakes for some time to rest and fill up their reserves for the migration. Some of them stay here over the summer, but probably the biggest number is migrating between Africa and the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
