The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)

in Feathered Friendslast month (edited)

The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus) is a small bird, smaller than a sparrow.

It inhabits almost all of Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. It spends the winter in Sub-Saharan Africa north of the equator, in northwestern Africa and in the southwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula.

It is a more timid bird than the sparrow, especially the male, which is more colorful (females are brownish-gray). In May (sometimes also in June) the female lays 6-7 turquoise eggs, which she then incubates for 12-14 days.

From my own observation, I can say that their number in Europe is increasing every year.

Discover the enchanting journey of the common redstart, a timid yet vibrant bird that graces Europe, Asia, and the Middle East with its presence, before wintering in the warm embrace of Sub-Saharan Africa. With its numbers on the rise, witness the marvel of nature as the female lays her stunning turquoise eggs each May!

Bird has lovely big round eyes, russet/orange tail feathers only I take is the female, male more dressed up making a happy pair perched on wires.
