Here are some #featheredfriends sightings form Arizona

Here is a white winged dove with some nice eyeliner and a good pose for identification of its white wing.

I often confuse these white winged doves for mourning doves. These guys tend to be a bit larger and their outer white wing stripe is a dead giveaway for identification. They also have a nice red eye with blue eyeliner if you only happen to see their head.

Here is a curve-billed thrasher. These guys have a really unique call and are one of the large bullies as the bird feeders in Arizona.

I always see them hanging around thorny bushes looking for large insects to eat.

Here is just a standard house sparrow, very rare indeed.

The Gila woodpeckers is quite common in Southern Arizona. They can be a bit of a nuisance if you have wooden eaves or walls as they love to peck holes in anything they can. I've even seen them poke holes in aluminum eaves before.

Here is a pie billed grebe swimming in a desert lake. I usually see these guys during the spring in Illinois.

Here is Dos Cabezas a mountain that borders Mexico. It is quite dry and rugged here but there are also lots of interesting birds to be found if you can hack the heat.

Now its off back to Illinois where it is nice and cool.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Sort:

wow, what a beautiful pigeon. I have never seen such pigeons in our area. Interesting.

A bird with a crooked beak looks proud.

Yeah the white winged dove is about the size of a pigeon, I used to hunt them and they taste about the same as a pigeon lol. The curved bill thrasher is very proud and aggressive in its territory, they like to claim the bird feeders all to themselves.

That last one... I'm guessing Boeing but maybe Airbus. I would have to hear the call.

Looks airbus to me based on engine config and flat area past the main wings but who knows they copy eachother closely.
