Hive FPL Head to Head League GW22 Previews

If it seems like it has been a long time between these posts then that's because it was. 18 days to be precise since the start of GW20 and GW21, with an elongated game week 20 and the FA Cup putting FPL on the back burner for the best part of 3 weeks.

That of course doesn't mean that there hasn't been plenty to ponder as a manager. Whether it's watching the results of the Asia and Africa regional contests and pining for the return of your favourite EPL stars, looking forward to the likes of KDB or Haaland being available for selection again or wondering if any of the big clubs are going to make a substantial signing before the close of transfer window tomorrow.

Managers will certainly have a keen interest in Arsenal's visit to Nottingham Forest tonight. The Gunners returned to form by thrashing a woeful Crystal Palace last time out and while their hosts today haven't enjoyed the most successful of returns to the top flight, they continue to be a dangerous prospect at home.

Also tonight, plenty of managers will have an eye on the Brighton game at Luton. With what looks like a favourable run of fixtures and a recent uptick in form, Seagulls players like Estupinan, Joao Pedro and Pascal Gross are being snapped up by teams across the league.

2 sides whose players remain popular but who have seen a recent downtrend in results also go head to head on Tuesday as Villa look to continue their fine home record against a Newcastle side still struggling with availability who have been poor on the road this season.

Moving into Wednesday and it looks like the reigning champions Man City are just starting to slip through the gears. KBD has already shown that he will have a major bearing on events in the 2nd half of the season and the prospect of him and Haaland in the same FPL team is one that many FPL managers will be looking to exploit.

Liverpool v Chelsea is the glamour tie of the round and one in which plenty of sides will have points coming from. Cole Palmer was owned by just 13k teams at the start of the season but now features in 3.7 million of them and there is little sign of that number not increasing. While Liverpool don't appear to have been hampered by the loss of players like Salah and TAA with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota stepping up to record big points in recent appearances.

GW22 Fixtures

Division 1

@martinlazizi v @b0s

Lazz maintained their high league position with a convincing win in GW21 thanks in no small part to them playing their wildcard. Meanwhile for Legion FC it was yet another defeat and it is now fair to say that they find themselves in a relegation battle.

That wildcard means that there are plenty of differentials in this match with Lazz looking for strong 2nd half of the season performances from a couple of players who've had little impact so far in KDB and Estupinan. Lazz have also added Pascal Gross to their midfield with Brighton looking like they are hitting form and with a decent run of fixtures to come that could prove a decent bit of business.

As for Legion FC they do have Richarlison who has only blanked in 1 of his last 6 league appearances as well as potentially Haaland who is making tentative steps towards a recovery from the fractured bone in his foot.

This is a battle between 2 sides in great form at the moment with Hungry Lions in particular having the midas touch as far as transfers in are concerned. The less said about Espada Numero Uno's decision to captain Trippier in GW21, the better.

There are not too many differences in the 2 squads but availability for Hungry Lions does mean they look like they'll be entering this head to head with a better chance of big points than their opponents who still have Son and Kabore out of action.

In forward areas in particular, Hungry Lions look to have an advantage with Bowen, Jota and Alvarez. Archer, a firm favourite amongst FPL players earlier in the season as a budget forward, looks like he will have his game time limited by the arrival of reinforcements at Sheffield United.

It was Darwin Nunez to the rescue for Creekside FC as they kept up the pace at the top of the table. Meanwhile at the other end of the standings, I Feel Qatari missed out on the chance to move out of the relegation zone with a defeat.

Both sides have plenty of players still missing due to international duty and injury. I Feel Qatari are stuck with just 1 keeper at present and with Forest playing Arsenal in GW22 that might hurt them.

However, in midfield they do have an advantage with Garnacho and Bowen much more likely to start and have an impact over McTominay. Upfront, it's a battle between 2 forwards who have been in good form of late. Joao Pedro's returns in the cup have been better than in the league but if he can transfer that scoring over then he might be a great signing not just now but for the next month or so.

@ipalibo v @belemo

2 sides who come into this fixture both thirsting for a win to break their respective droughts. Whyte FC have managed to retain 4th place despite no win in their last 3 but they are now 9 points off top place and must surely win this match to keep their title hopes alive. Meanwhile Inzanagi FC are just 2 points above the relegation places and recorded the lowest score of any Division 1 side in GW21.

There's not much to choose between the 2 teams but on paper you'd say that Whyte FC hold a slight advantage. Both teams have Spurs full-backs as differentials but Porro has offered more as an attacking threat and picks up fewer yellow cards than his compatriot Udogie.

In more attacking areas, the City pair of Foden and Alvarez look far more likely to deliver points that Nketiah who will probably be on the bench against Forest on Tuesday night.

@mckane v @pvmihalache

Screenshot 2024-01-29 at 20.46.03.png

FC McKane continue to struggle for consistency but will feel that this is an opportunity for 3 points against a Content Creators side that they've outscored in all recent GWs and who have the lowest total score in Division 1.

There are plenty of differentials between the 2 sides particularly at the back where Saliba is the only common pick. The likes of Konsa and Udogie enjoy home advtange while players like Trippier and Colwill have tough assignments against top 4 opposition.

In midfield, FC McKane have a real advantage with Almiron and McTominay the only available differntials for Content Creators at this point. The return of Haaland would be a welcome one for many FPL managers but none more so than Content Creators who would see him as a possible trump card if he can get himself fit for the game against Burnley.

Nonz FC were very unlucky not to keep their winning streak alive despite recording 74 points in GW21 while Suffragette City narrowly missed out on the win that would have taken them out of the relegation zone.

This could be one of the best head to heads to watch this week given the number of high quality differentials on offer. The return to fitness of TAA will be a welcome boost for Suffragette City who also have Alfie Doughty who himself has 6 assists from fullback this season in their ranks. By contrast, Nonz FC have the ever reliable Pedro Porro as well as Joe Gomez who enjoyed his first goal involvement of the season last week from a left-back position.

In midfield, you'd probably say that Nonz FC look to have more goals in their side but that Suffragette City's players face easier fixtures in GW21. While upfront, it's very rare to see 3 differentials on each side with Darwin Nunez suddenly hitting a streak of scoring form as Liverpool look to push their title credentials.

@shamzy v @borran

Screenshot 2024-01-30 at 06.27.07.png

Shamzy FC got a much needed win in GW21 to maintain top spot but it was a far from convincing performance despite the fact that they played their wildcard.

That means that these 2 sides have a decent number of differentials and you'd certainly say that Shamzy FC have the stronger options in defence and up front although doubling up on City defensive assets is a risk given that they've only kept 1 clean sheet in their last 10 league matches.

In midfield you could also question the acquistion of Eze, a talented player in a struggling team and Fernandes, an expensive player in a side that has struggled to deliver in the final third. By contrast, Hiveheadz can count on Bowen to be West Ham's focal point for the foreseeable future while it remains to be seen whether Foden gets into quite as many goal scoring areas now that KDB has returned to the side.

@teofilex11 v @thoth442

Screenshot 2024-01-30 at 06.39.15.png

What looks like it should be a close mid-table battle between these 2 albeit that thoth442FC have outscored their opponents in the last 3 GWs.

Plenty of differences between the 2 sides. At the back, Likodra FC have been impacted of late by the diminishing returns of a couple of their high priced full-backs whereas thoth442 got to feast on the points gained from Gabriel's brace in GW21.

In the middle of the park, Likodra FC are one of just a handful of teams out there not to have Cole Palmer in their squad but the additions of Kulusevski and Bowen could still prove to be very useful.

Up top you'd say that Likodra FC currently hold the advantage with Hojlund and Alvarez although it will be interesting to see how much game time the later gets now that KDB is back and Haaland is close to fitness.

@blockchainfpl v @yagman01

Screenshot 2024-01-30 at 06.52.51.png

BlockchainFPL got a massive win in GW21 to boost their chances of survival and if they can make it 3 in a row they could find themselves out of the relegation zone altogether. However, they face a tough test against a Yagman FC side who used their wildcard to good effect last week in scoring 81 points despite leaving KDB on the bench with a further 12...

Double Newcastle defenders does leave BlockchainFPL a little short of options at the back especially when you consider that Trippier has delivered just 4 points across the last 7 GWs. By contrast Estupinan looks to have returned from injury and hit the ground running with 20 points in the last 3 GWs and impressive performances in the Cup as well.

Further forward and again you'd say that Yagman have the form players with Jota looking like an important part of the Liverpool side over the next few weeks. It remains to be seen whether KDB will play from the start in the match against Burnley and if he does whether that will relegate Foden to the right flank.

@vickoly v @amirtheawesome1

Is this the luckiest team in the league against the unluckiest team in the league? Augment find themselves 6th with 12 wins this season while The Amirians are rock bottom with just 5 victories. However, as far as total points are concerned, Augment have secured just 18 more across 21 GWs that their opponents today. Indeed, both sides scored 61 points last week but only Augment came out with the 'w' from their head to head.

Augment have the expensive options as keepers but Leno in goal for Fulham against a shot shy Everton team might prove a decent option otherwise the main hope for points from any of the other defensive options looks to be a clean sheet bonus.

Further forward and the midfield could well be where this game is decided. Bernado Silva is only part of 5% of FPL teams but as usual, he's gone about his business quietly and to great effect, securing 89 points already this season with 5 goal involvements in his last 4 appearances.

Good luck in your head to head matches this week!

Sort:

Feels like I can't get a winning line-up

I know the feeling 😂

At least your teams are more original and fun to write about.

Your wildcard could be important for the rest of the season

!BEER

Trying to guess the next big players to emerge this season

There’s this young Norwegian striker called Haaland, he looks alright 😂

Seriously though, if Olise at Palace can stay fit he’s a good call. Gusto for Chelsea is a decent player and fairly cheap. Joao Pedro scores loads of goals for Brighton in cup games so can he find that form in the league?

Bough Dragusin as he's Romanian and waiting to get transfers to get the Luton striker!
