Hive FPL Head to Head League GW35 Previews + Hive Cup Round 4

Welcome back to the Hive FPL blog.

It's been a bit of a hectic week for me so in order to save a bit of time I'll be merging both the Head to Head and Cup posts into a single blog.

Screenshot 2024-04-27 at 07.14.32.png

Unsurprisingly GW34 with it's multiple double fixtures for many of the big teams provided some very big points. 9 of the teams in Division 1 alone recorded scores of 100 points or more demonstrating once again the elite nature of the Hive FPL.

GW35 isn't likely to offer quite as many opportunities but Chelsea and Spurs do play twice and both sides have a tendency to be involved in games with plenty of goals.

The ability of managers to take advantage of that double GW might come down to the fitness of many of the popular picks between the North and West London teams.

Chelsea's 2 most popular fantasy players, Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto both missed the game against Arsenal and are still doubts for this weekend. While Spurs are without Destiny Udogie at least for the North London derby on Sunday and fellow full-back Pedro Porro also has a knock. Only Heung-min Son featured in more fantasy sides than the Spurs full-backs at the close of GW33 and you'd imagine he'll be a popular pick again this week.

Division 1 head to head

Headline: The Amirians and Content Creators Relegated

Big wins for I Feel Qatari, Izanagi FC and Legion FC in GW34 continue to keep the relegation fight very tight. However, we can now confirm that the bottom 2 clubs in The Amirians and Content Creators have been relegated.

Augment FC also got an important 3 points to move them up to 11th and 51 points. I wouldn't say that they're safe just yet but the real focus will remain on those sides yet to go passed the 50 point mark.

At the other end of the table, Shamzy FC will be crowned champions if they can beat I Feel Qatari.

GW35 Fixtures

@talesfrmthecrypt v @belemo

Screenshot 2024-04-26 at 06.42.29.png

This is the absolute key match towards the bottom of the table as 14th take on 16th. With just 2 points separating the sides then the outcome of this head to head is sure to have a massive bearing on the hopes of either team in staying up.

Both these teams burnt their last chips in GW34 so this is a straight shoot out between who has the strongest squad and makes the best call on the captaincy.

In goal, both sides are represented in the Everton v Brentford match on Saturday afternoon. The Toffees win against Liverpool means they are all but safe while Brentford's 5 match unbeaten run almost guarantees them Premier League status too. It's tempting to say that this is one of those games where a draw would be a good result for both sides. Let's see if they see it the same way.

The alternatives are Henderson whose Palace side have won 3 on the bounce and travel to Fulham or Raya whose Arsenal team will be involved in a feisty North London derby.

Malo Gusto if fit could be an advantage for Suffragette City. However, the Chelsea right-back has managed just 1 start in the last 3 Premier League games. His injury may not be serious but is he fit enough for 2 games in a week?

Suffragette City do have handy alternatives in the form of Branthwaite and Ait Nouri who both have home matches against teams in the bottom 3rd of the table. Izanagi FC also have a Wolves defender in Kilman and Andersen of Palace. It means that as far as potential clean sheet bonuses go, even though there looks to be a bit of variety across the 2 squads, they may end up cancelling each other out.

Into midfield and the relatively easy Manchester United home games continue to come for Garnacho. That being said, the Red Devils escaped a major scare against bottom side Sheffield United at Old Trafford this week so perhaps Burnley who have lost only 1 of their last 5 in the Premier League shouldn't be written off entirely.

Suffragette City have 2 form players in Foden and Havertz as differentials. Both play away from home this weekend but that's not to say they won't be in with a chance of points. Man City travel to relegation threatened Forest who haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last 9 Premier League fixtures.

Upfront it's another direct head to head in the Fulham v Palace match with 2 of the inform strikers of 2024. Jean-Philippe Mateta hadn't scored in the first 16 rounds of the Premier League but now has 11 for the season.

Division 2 head to head

Into Division 2 and Uwabbs were the only side in the top 7 to lose last week. It means that their promotion party is on hold for now but they are still in a very strong position to claim a top 5 spot.

With the consistent form of the current top 6, the chasing pack have begun to fall by the wayside to the point that the realistic hopes for promotion of anyone outside the current top 9 are fading fast.

Screenshot 2024-04-27 at 04.39.54.png

If other results go their way then Skander TN could be crowned champions at the end of the week but they face a difficult match against Beyond Horizon who moved up to 9th with a convincing win over Testing FC who themselves now look out of the promotion race.

GW35 fixtures

@skanderh (Skander TN, 1st, 84 points) v @beyondhorizonmm (Beyond Horizon, 9th, 63 points)

One major differential between these 2 sides is the absence of Cole Palmer from Skander TN's squad. Presumably that will be corrected in the transfer market but with other injury concerns to Kerkez, Gusto, Eze and Haaland it might mean that they are left short on options elsewhere.

Beyond Horizon look particularly strong in defence with big name centre backs and the double game week for Romero. By contrast, Skander TN might be forced into playing Charlie Taylor or taking a points hit to get a better player in.

In midfield, lets see if both sides continue to persist with Mo Salah. Since returning from AFCON, Salah has scored just 3 Premier League goals and with Liverpool struggling more generally then it might be time for managers to invest those significant sums of money elsewhere.

Up front and Wissa looks like a good buy for Skander TN based on his current form and the relatively easy run of fixtures that Brentford have between now and the end of the season.

Hive FPL Cup

The biggest upset in the 4th round of the cup came via Valchiz FC who are currently ranked 29th in Division 2 and 47th overall in the classic league. They knocked out Division 1 Hiveheadz who are currently ranked 13th.

Elsewhere, the only other defeats to Division 1 sides came via fixtures that featured only top flight teams. It means that Lazz and Likodra FC are also out.

Round 4 fixtures

We are now down to the final 16 clubs playing across 8 matches.

2 of those games feature sides that are both in Division 1 with Legion FC playing Augment FC and thoth442FC against Izanagi FC. We also have 1 all Division 2 game between Tequenos United and Valchiz FC ensuring at least some lower league representation in the Quarter Finals.

Can any of the remaining Division 2 sides pull off an upset?

Roboski FC scored 122 points last week without the use of a chip and in fact they carry over a free transfer with which to make an additional change to their already strong squad. They'll need to keep delivering big points though if they are to overcome BlockchainFPL who have passed the 100 point barrier in the last 2 gameweeks.

Stom FC are also on the march up the league at the moment but have been drawn against Hungry Lions who themselves moved up to 2nd in the classic league last week. Is a dramatic league and cup double on the cards?

Both Apples and Pears and I Feel Qatari used chips to good effect in GW34 to reach the final 16. While Formidable Milano may well find themselves playing FC McKane again next season too as they chase promotion to Division 1.
