Buffet Dinner at Rot Thai Steamboat and Grill

On one of the days during February's long year end holiday, the boys wanted instant ramen for their dinner and then followed by luxury of screen time. The eldest son said he could cook for himself and could cook one for younger brother too. Set! What a better time for us couple to go out to have our own slow dinner. We were trying to think was there any cheap buffet around then suddenly we recalled this place.

It was actually close for awhile during the Covid19 era, but now it is back open, good business too.

Rot Thai Steamboat and Grill

📍Location: No.19.G, Plaza Wangsa Maju, Jalan Maju Ria 1, Seksyen 10 Wangsa Maju, 53300 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

This is one of the branches, they do have other branches at other locations.

Ambience

And when one drives pass the restaurant, it is usually easily spotted due to its bright theme yellow-colour in practically everything from top to bottom, canopy to tables and chairs. It is open-air concept due to the need of proper ventilation because we will be doing grilling, the smoke gotto have space to freely fly. So, many fans are installed and I would say, the ventilation is not bad.

When we arrived at 6pm, it was still early, so still not crowded yet. It is RM35 per person with no limited time, how cool is that.

By the time we finished eating at 8:30pm, it was already super crowded and noisy.

Spread of Buffet

Appetizer

There are many appetisers for hungry people who want to eat something else while waiting for the steamboat and grilling to be done. Here, you can find fried noodles, fried rice, blue rice, nuggets, sandwich, Malay donuts, stir fry vegetables, a pot of chicken soup, as well as mango milk dessert. You can find variety of jellies and 'kuih-muih' too.

Fruits and salad

Love that they provide section of fruits and salad for those who really love fruits and salad, this is superb bonus point.

Ice-cream

There is a section of ice cream too, customers scoop by themselves. I realise this section always crowded by children, non-supervised, so I find the ice cream section quite messy because they children scoop and then without rinsing, scoop another children. So, I totally skipped this section.

Variety of Steamboat items and marinated meat

Here, you will be spoil of choices. So many different types of Steamboat ingredients as well as marinated meat consist of black pepper beef, teriyaki chicken and turmeric chicken. There are fish slices, squid, mussels, clams and prawns too. And a section of vegetables. And I think I did not capture those seafood and vegetables.

Noodles, egg and sauces

There is a section of dried noodles for customers who love noodles in your Steamboat, eggs too and variety of sauces for dipping. Great!

Drinks

This is drink section. On that day, we had mango, orange and pomegranate. If you love sugary drink, this will suit you. My husband and I skipped this section and just went go plain water.

Let's Steamboat and Grilling

The skill of eating steamboat and grilling to make it worth it, was to skip all the appetizer section. So I ate non from there.

Usually, husband would be the one doing the grilling and I would be in charge of the food, but this round, I felt like doing the grilling too. So, while on it, I totally had forgotten to take any pictures of them except those we had done grilling. We ate really a lot. Like 5 rounds of grilling. And two rounds of Steamboat soup.

We took a lot of the marinated meat, fish slices and squid. Both of us did not feel like eating any mussels, clams and prawns. For the steambaot soup, we chose the classic one. You may choose Tomyam for additional RM5 but we did not feel like getting too hot. Lol... We put a lot of vegetables and mushroom and fish slices and squid into our soup. So yummy!!

The grilled meats were superb too. Eat them with or without dipping sauce, both were delicious. For dipping sauce, we chose basic chilli sauce, Thai chilli sauce and teriyaki soy sauce. Nice combo for the meats!

I did not know time flew so fast, we cooked the ingredients in the soup, non-stop refilling ingredients for grilling, non-stop eating. Basically, we ate alot of the beef, chicken, fish slices, squid, brocoli and eggs, and some sausages. 2 hours and 30 minutes passed. We were full! Thank you, Rot Thai! Worth it!
