Cook-up at the office - Third Edition

1.png

Hello everyone,

Today I bring you the goods about the third edition of our office community lunch. I must tell you, this event keeps getting better at each edition. I am enjoying so much having this opportunity to try several different dishes from all over the world. This time we had 2 colleagues from Mauritius, 1 from India, 1 from Spain and 1 from Malaysia in charge of the cooking.

For those that haven’t seen my other posts, this is an event organised by one of our office managers that happens every 2 months and the idea is to have a group of people cooking for the whole office. Our office is small, we are only 25 people, so this kind of event is reasonably easy to organise. And it has been an amazing experience. I cooked in the first edition, so now I’m just enjoying all the dishes that my colleagues are cooking. You can read about the other editions here:

This edition was special for me because I got the chance to eat one dish that I have been bugging all my colleagues from Spain about it since we started talking about this event: Tortillas de Patatas, also known as the Spanish Omelette. I tried this dish more than ten years ago when a friend from Spain cooked it for me and I loved it. It is quite a simple dish but it tastes so good. And even though it is simple, I haven’t tried to cook it yet. I definitely should.

Another thing that is worth mentioning is that the number of desserts in these events keep increasing. In this edition we had several sweet dishes and I couldn’t be happier. I love sweets. My team will have to up their game when it is our time to cook again. We didn’t bring many desserts when it was our turn to cook.

This time I got a bit braver and tried not only 1 but 2 spicy dishes. One of them was the Saffron Rice, a rice with vegetables and spices, cooked by my colleague from Mauritius and it wasn’t too spicy for me. The second one was the Mutton Briyani from my colleague from India, this one was bit hot for me, and even adding the Onion Raita, a yogurt sauce, I still felt the chilli for a little while.

The good thing was that the 2 desserts brought by my colleague from Malaysia were a perfect match for a spicy lunch. The Pengat is like a soup with sweet potato, yam, coconut milk and sugar and it was very soothing. The Agar Agar is gelatin with coconut milk and sugar and was very refreshing. The Banana Tarlets and the Apple Cake ended my lunch on a high note.

I’m already anxious for the next event, especially because I’m familiar with the cooking skills of 2 of my colleagues in the next team. This event has become such a big deal that people are trying to change their site commissioning visits to not clash with the dates of the lunch. I’m really happy that I haven’t missed any of them so far. Hopefully I will be able to keep this streak.

Mutton Biryani is delicious and special dish from India. I hope you like it and want to try it again :)

Yeah, that was a really great idea.
I liked the Biryani, even though it was a bit spicy for me. But I'm building my tolerance slowly. 🙂
