‘Parka’ (Let’s Drink) Restaurant - The Culture of Tuluvas

Hello people!

It has now been over a year and a half after I moved cities. There’s quite a list of things I miss about my hometown, and one of those that top the list is the food.

I hail from a small laid-back coastal city in Southern India called ‘Mangalore’ in Karnataka. This humble abode of mine is also known by the names Kudla, Mangaluru, Mangalapuram, Kodiyal, Maikala. Mangalore is also the largest part of Tulunadu, which consists of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in Karnataka, India.

When I learned about there being a restaurant dedicated to showcase the culture and food specialties of my city, I (almost literally) jumped at the opportunity of visiting this place. It had really been a while since I got to try the staple food from my hometown.

This is the first Tulunadu style restaurant in Bengaluru. It is all about presenting the culture & traditions of the Tuluvas. The place is named as “Parka” which stands for “let’s drink” in Tulu.

The interior is adorned with portraits of certain customs that are practised in Tulunadu and you can scan the QR code on them to know the origin and story behind the scenes.

They have some special fusion cocktails named Otrasi, Dursu, Pundi. My favourites were the Kaara Kukku (spicy raw mango cocktail) & the Bonda (tender coconut) Special. The cocktails are priced between INR 250 (2.99 USD) to INR 450 (5.38 USD).

For food, they served some really great coastal specials. They have Mangalorean classics like -
Ghee Roast (INR 295 - 3.53 USD)
Kori Ghassi - chicken curry (INR 325 - 3.89 USD)
King Fish Green Tawa Fry (seasonal pricing)
Pulimunchi - meat in a sour & spicy medley of spices (INR 345 - 4.13 USD)
Neer Dose - thin layered tender dosas (INR 60 for 4pcs. - 0.72 USD).

I was surprised to see my favourite Kori Rotti - rice crisps dipped in chicken curry (INR 345 - 4.13 USD) here.

Although we were quite full by now, we ended the meal with every Indian's favourite - Gulab Jamun (INR 120 - 1.44 USD). And they were just as yum as they look here.

I had a wonderful experience here. We truly enjoyed the food which was so close to home. Will definitely keep coming back here.

Another reason we had a lovely time here was because of the live music they have in the evenings. It elevates the entire experience.
