Today, India is celebrating 24 years of kargil war. To commemorate the bravery ,valor and sacrifices made by indian armed forces, 26 July every year is marked as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The kargil war is one of the poignant chapter in Indian History. Today to mark the ocassion I am going to highlights some of the facts shedding light on the kargil war.
the kargil conflict took place between May - July 1999 in the kargil sector of Jammu & Kashmir India.
the war was the result of infliteration and intrusion by the Pakistan army and Kashmiri militants into the Indian control territory of Kargil.
Operation Vijay is associated with the campaign by the Indian army to gain control over the occupied kargil heights.
Kargil war is a crucial and challenging as it is fought on high altitude area. Some of the posts are more than 18000 feet. Making it one of most toughest terrain of warfare.
the war took toll on both sides. Approximately 500 Indian and 700 Pakistanis lost their lives during the war period of 2 months.
the war make extensive use of artillery, air power and infantry operation. Making it next big things after 1971 war.
the Indian air force played a pivotal role conducting cruicial airstrikes to dislodge the enemy from strategic location.
Captain Vikram Batra, becomes a national heroes for his bravery act in the war. His famous words ye dil manage more becomes iconic. Later a bollywood movies is made on his life.
the war attracts international attention with many countries compeling Pakistan to withdraw their forces.
The Indian armed forces stood triumphed albeit at a very heavy cost. The war has forever etched in the collective memory of the nation. Kargil Vijay diwas pays tribute to the bravery and valor of the kargil war heroes. We must respect and pays tribute to the Indian Braveheart who lost their life for the motherland.
