I don't think AI need be conscious, to be devastating to humanity. It doesn't even have to be better than the smartest of us - just better than the average.

I agree.
AI can be used to build and harm. Like everything.
You can use a stone as foundation - or throw it off a mountain possibly hitting someone on the head.
I see the greater danger in human's worldview.

And I find it very funny that the same scientists claiming everything to be dead (dead rock, dead materialistic universe and even hackable humans) now also claim artificial intelligence/ awareness / conciousness / life
