| I decided to start a project to translate into English the poems of a prominent Polish poet, although somewhat forgotten today. He is practically unknown outside Poland. Stanislaw Grochowiak published his poetry from the 1950s to the 1970s. He had a very specific style, inspired by the ordinary and even a certain imperfection. He was accused of being fascinated by ugliness and "turpism", but this was probably due to the misunderstanding of his poetry by poets of the generation older than him. He himself spoke about "miserabillism" in his poetry, i.e. showing the sublime through the prism of low, flawed things and matters.
