Lunch and laying foundations

in Reflections28 days ago

Firstly an admission, or maybe a confession - We slept in for far too long this morning.

Secondly another confession - it was glorious and I think it was very much needed, even though it was an impromptu sleep in, unplanned, but planned or not, it was so nice and even better because our cat slept in also. Usually she is on the bed tapping her paw or poking her cold little nose into my face in an effort to make me get up and give her breakfast. We all slept in and enjoyed it greatly.

The slow start to the day meant we had to fit our plans into less time but fortunately all we had planned were some errands, a few purchases were required, and later some gardening, mainly watering.

We headed out into a lovely mild day, bright and sunny, and went about our tasks enjoying our relaxed agenda as we went and then stopped for lunch and that's where we started laying foundations.

We've been very loosely talking about moving house on a few occasions since the beginning of the year and that's what we were discussing in greater depth over lunch. It's a big decision, something we need to carefully plan out, but even before that we need to determine if it's the best thing for us now and in the future.

There's so many moving parts, so many considerations, that need to come together and at times it's a little difficult to see all of them all at once and from all angles. This is not something we want to do unless we're totally convinced it's the right thing to do for now and the coming years and getting it wrong could put other plans in jeopardy which is why we're approaching it so cautiously. Having said all that however, it's still an exciting prospect and something that could work so well for us.

We had a lovely lunch, nothing overly special, just some baguettes and coffee eaten in the park, and we tried to talk things through in depth, identify the benefits, negatives and challenges that may come through making the decision to move house and while no decisions were made doing a little groundwork has confirmed a few things in our minds. It was a productive afternoon.

Sleeping in is one of the nicest thing to do. It's not something one can do often, so being able to do so has a feeling of freedom with it. Looking for a new house is both fun and difficult. A new place can be nice, with a fresh start, and planning for how everything will look. But it is difficult since it is a big purchase, and one where you could be stuck with for a long time. I hope you are able to find one that you both love.

Hello and sorry for my very late reply, I have been a little preoccupied with real life.

The housing market here is very difficult as prices are very high and competition is fierce. We are in a good position however with so many people looking and buying prices seem to be skyrocketing. We will do the right thing ultimately, and discussions will help us determine what that is.

I see. It seems to have shifted to a seller's market. I remember after the pandemic where rent and house prices were lower. Good luck.
