Cutting method

There are different ways of cutting a shirt or dress.
We can cut a dress using pattern drafting and freehand cutting.
This shirt dress was made from free-hand-cutting because I didn’t want to go through the stress of drafting a pattern before achieving this style.

Step 1: Lay the fabric on a flat surface and smooth it out completely.
Folding the fabric into two,1 inch is folded at the tip of the fabric for buttonholes and ironed smoothly.
The neck region 2is and a half inches by 3
The armhole: 9 inches
The burst 36 divided 4 by
The hip circumference is 40 divided by 4
The length, which is 38+ 1 inch seam allowance, was all marked out evenly and cut out.

Step 2: The cutout fabric is placed on another folded fabric to cut the back piece.

Step 3: The 20 inches for the down ruffled is measured and cut out.

Step 4: The shirt dress collar 3 inches wide by 17 inches in length is measured and cut out with the soft stay.

Step 5: The fabric for the ruffled sleeve is measured and cut out likewise.

Sewing method

Step 1: The two front pieces are sewn by running stitches down on the 11-inch allowance for the button holes
Likewise, the button holes are created.

Step 2: The two front pieces are joined to the back through the shoulder.

Step 3: The 20-inch fabric cut out for the down ruffled is gathered and then joined to the down part of the shirt to make a full gown shirt dress.

Step 4: The soft stay is ironed to the collar to make it stand and thereafter folded into two stitches and turned to the right side, then ironed thoroughly and fixed to the necklines

Step 5: The sleeves for the shirt dress are stitched around the armhole.

Step 6. Buttons are tacked to their rightful part on the fabric, and the button holes are opened to be able to insert the button fixed.
Then, the dress is ironed thoroughly and placed on a mannequin for display.
