Ayer asistí a un encuentro con el fotógrafo Rodrigo Benavides, en la Galería de Arte Nacional de Venezuela. Esto en el marco de la exposición: "El ojo del fotógrafo. Registro visual para la historia".
Lo primero que les cuento es que este fotógrafo nos hizo una invitación especial a @mundomanaure y a mí para la clase magistral. Esto es parte de la alianza que Hive realiza con el Museo de Bellas Artes, de quien Benavides es artista fijo de la casa.
La clase me encantó, porque me recordó a mi época de estudiante de diseño gráfico. La mayoría de los asistentes eran estudiantes de arte y fotografía. La manera como atendían concentrados a lo que Benavides exponía, era contagiosa. Me encanta ver chicos apasionados con las artes.
El fotógrafo explicó sobre la fotografía documental y todo el proceso creativo que lleva. Analizó varias obras para que los estudiantes se inspiraran. También dio una clase sobre una de las primeras cámaras que existieron. La mostró y lo más increíble es que funciona al 100%.
Se habló sobre los cambios que trajo la fotografía digital, pero como muchos están regresando al químico. A mí me sorprendió es que ninguno de los estudiantes, ha probado la fotografía analógica y menos el proceso de revelado y copiado. Eso es algo que valoro demasiado en mis estudios y que incluso se lo llegué a enseñar a mis estudiantes, cuando apenas nacía la fotografía digital.
Este encuentro hizo que conociera la Galería de Arte Nacional, aunque fue muy poco lo que vi, me gustó y generó la motivación para volver a ir.
Pude deleitarme con una exposición de fotografías antiguas de Venezuela. Fue increíble ver cómo era Caracas hace más de cien años. También vi a Barquisimeto, La Guaira y Puerto Cabello. Algo que aprendí del profesor Benavides, es que la mayor colección de fotografías de Latinoamérica, se encuentra en la Biblioteca Nacional de Venezuela y que con previa cita, te muestran algunas;las que pidas ver. Cuentan con más de tres millones de fotografía, de diferentes períodos y estilos. Es muy interesante y apasionante el mundo de la fotografía y sobretodo su historia.

Yesterday I attended a meeting with photographer Rodrigo Benavides, at the National Art Gallery of Venezuela. This within the framework of the exhibition: “The eye of the photographer. Visual record for history”.
The first thing I tell you is that this photographer made a special invitation to @mundomanaure and me for the master class. This is part of the alliance that Hive makes with the Museo de Bellas Artes, of which Benavides is a fixed artist of the house.
I loved the class because it reminded me of my time as a graphic design student. Most of the attendees were art and photography students. The way they concentrated on what Benavides was saying was contagious. I love to see kids passionate about the arts.
The photographer explained about documentary photography and the creative process involved. He analyzed several works to inspire the students. He also gave a class on one of the first cameras that existed. He showed it and the most incredible thing is that it works 100%.
He talked about the changes brought about by digital photography, but how many are going back to the chemical. I was surprised that none of the students had tried analog photography, let alone the process of developing and copying. That is something that I value too much in my studies and that I even taught to my students, when digital photography was just born.
This encounter made me get to know the National Art Gallery, although I saw very little, I liked it and it generated the motivation to go there again.
I was delighted with an exhibition of old photographs of Venezuela. It was incredible to see what Caracas was like more than a hundred years ago. I also saw Barquisimeto, La Guaira and Puerto Cabello. Something I learned from Professor Benavides, is that the largest collection of photographs in Latin America, is in the National Library of Venezuela and with prior appointment, they show you some of them; the ones you ask to see. They have more than three million photographs, from different periods and styles. It is very interesting and exciting the world of photography and especially its history.

A pesar del avance tecnológico, que bueno que aun existan fotógrafos que todavía motiven a las personas a incursionar en la fotografía analógica, porque a pesar de que era algo más tedioso sin duda alguna tenía su propia arte y magia.

Nunca debería desaparecer esa fotografía. Las sensaciones del revelado le dan un valor añadido. El olor al entrar al cuarto oscuro, los granos del papel y mirar las fotos con la lupa, hay todo un ritual que a cualquiera atrapa.
