Hello hivers. Black and white photography has always seemed complex and intimate to me and I believe that you have to have certain knowledge regarding light, shadow and composition so that this photo absent of color has a different meaning and manages to convey something beyond of what that the distraction of colors allows us to perceive. Taking photos and editing them in black and white is not the same as taking photos in black and white.
Esta publicación no es de retratos jajaja pero quise hablar de eso porque es la temática que más me llama la atención cuando está hecha en el formato monocromático, sin embargo, como la mayoría de mis fotos están relacionadas con la naturaleza, elegí algunas fotos de árboles y plantas y las edité en blanco y negro, al principio quería poner sólo árboles secos pero al final agregué algunas otras que me gustaron.
This post isn't about portraits hahaha but I wanted to talk about that because it's the subject that catches my attention the most when it's made in the monochrome format, however since most of my photos are related to nature, I chose some photos of trees and plants and I edited them in black and white, at first I wanted to put only dry trees but in the end I added some others that I liked.
En lo personal, creo que el tipo de fotos que mejor se ajustan a este formato son los retratos de personas y animales. Cuando miras un rostro así, desnudo de todo color, percibes algo diferente en esa cara que ya conoces o te haces una idea de cómo es la persona detrás de ese rostro que no conoces. Cuando estas fotos están hechas por un fotógrafo que sabe conectar con los protagonistas, y que más que habilidoso es sobretodo observador, el resultado es una imagen con mucha fuerza.
Personally, I think that the type of photos that best fit this format are portraits of people and animals. When you look at a face like that, naked in all color, you perceive something different in that face that you already know or you get an idea of what the person behind that face that you don't know is like. When these photos are taken by a photographer who knows how to connect with the protagonists and that more than skillful, he/she is above all observant, the result is a very powerful image.
¿Que por qué seleccioné árboles y plantas secas y sin hojas? Quizás porque mi mente asocia la fotografía en blanco y negro con cosas tristes, melancólicas, tenebrosas y con rostros que tienen muchas historias que contar pero que no quieren hacerlo jajaja, no hablan, sólo miran a través del monocromático lente y permanecen ahí como las piedras, aunque en el fondo, cada detalle de sus caras, resaltado gracias a la ausencia de colores, haga innecesarias las palabras.
Why did I select dry, leafless trees and plants? Maybe because my mind associates black and white photography with sad, melancholic, dark things and with faces that have many stories to tell but don't want to do it hahaha, they don't speak, they just look through the monochrome lens and stay there like stones, although in the background, every detail of their faces, highlighted thanks to the absence of colors, makes words unnecessary.
Árboles esperando la temporada de lluvia, un árbol quemado del que sólo quedó el tronco pero que aún así sigue siendo útil para la naturaleza, la flor de una planta de sábila (aloe) despidiéndose poco a poco de sus pétalos, la fuerza de algunas enredaderas apoderándose de los troncos de los árboles del parque para seguir su curso hacia arriba, una rama de romero a través de la luz del atardecer.
Trees waiting for the rainy season, a burned tree of which only the trunk remained but which is still useful for nature, the flower of an aloe plant slowly saying goodbye to its petals, the strength of some vines seizing the trunks of the park's trees to continue their course upwards, a branch of rosemary through the evening light.
Después de haber seleccionado todas las fotos que quería editar en blanco y negro para esta publicación, tuve que eliminar muchas de la lista porque me di cuenta que la mayoría de ellas no se veían tan bien en este formato como yo imaginaba 😕🥴 jajaja 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️, mientras que otras eran casi perfectas, (para mi ojo inexperto por supuesto jajaja).
After having selected all the photos that I wanted to edit in black and white for this post, I had to eliminate many from the list because I realized that most of them didn't look as good in this format as I imagined 😕🥴 hahaha 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️, while others were almost perfect, (to my untrained eye of course hahaha).
Bueno amigos, quiero seguir aprendiendo de este complejo formato fotográfico en blanco y negro que nos permite extraer de cierta manera la esencia escondida de las cosas, las personas y la naturaleza, esa esencia que se esconde detrás del escudo de los colores. El blanco y negro desnuda la imagen a su estado más minimalista y eso me gusta. No es nada fácil lograr mostrar esa esencia pero aquí en Hive hay muchos expertos y no tan expertos fotógrafos que nos sorprenden continuamente con el talento que tienen para conseguirlo. Well friends, I want to continue learning from this complex black and white photographic format that allows us to extract in a certain way the hidden essence of things, people and nature and that hides behind the shield of colors. The black and white strips the image to its most minimalist state and I like that. It's not easy to show that essence but here in Hive there are many expert and not so expert photographers who continually surprise us with the talent they have to achieve it.
