Keep The Distance
Even on Splinterlands we have a ruleset dedicated to "social distancing" (actually more than one), in which creatures can only use ranged attacks, and possibly only of a certain type, such as ranged attacks. With the Going the distance ruleset, the Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge therefore invites us to keep our distance, but without giving up the chance to fight with our opponent.
The Going the distance ruleset only allows cards with ranged attacks, but not magic ones: bows, arrows, crossbows, spears will therefore be our best allies in this type of battle!
Abilities that affect the damage caused by ranged attacks will also be a must: Summoners such as Quix the Devious can be particularly effective, as can abilities such as Headwinds.
Among the defensive abilities, Shield, which halves the damage done, and Dodge and Blind, which help our creatures to dodge enemy attacks more easily, prove particularly useful.
Let's move onto the battlefield!
Let us then analyse a game played with this ruleset:
The choice of cards is not very wide, given the rulesets present in the game, so my opponent and I end up with two very similar formations, but among the most important differences is that of the Summoner, with Quix the Devious providing a major malus to enemy creatures.
Speed could also play a role, thanks to the presence of Naga Assassin in second position, which could prove to be a difficult target for my opponent to hit.
Thanks to the bonus given by the death of Venari Marksrat, Naga Assassin immediately began to create problems for the enemy team, which found itself missing several attacks.
In the meantime my cards do not miss a shot and continue to eliminate the opponent's creatures, reducing the enemy team's firepower more and more.
It is only during the fifth turn that Naga Assassin is finally taken down, but by then the difference between the two sides is too wide to be closed: my remaining cards do far more damage and the progress of the turns makes my victory become inevitable.
Despite my advantage, the battle continued to drag on for several more turns and it was only during the eleventh that my team managed to put an end to the match.
MVP of the match
Naga Assassin thanks to its speed gives the rest of my team time to break through the opponent's defences, giving me a crucial advantage in the early rounds to gain victory.

The fewer options available requires one to make the most of every little advantage: speed, as is often the case, proves to be an extremely important parameter, capable of single-handedly shifting the outcome of the battle in my favour.

Anche su Splinterlands abbiamo un ruleset dedicato al "distanziamento sociale" (in realtà più di uno), in cui le creature possono utilizzare solo attacchi a distanza, e magari solo di un certo tipo, come quelli ranged. Con il ruleset Going the distance la Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge ci invita quindi a mantenere le distanze, ma senza comunque rinunciare a scontrarci con il nostro avversario.
Il ruleset Going the distance consente di schierare solo carte con attacchi a distanza, ma non di tipo magico: archi, frecce, balestre, lance saranno quindi i nostri migliori alleati in questo tipo di battaglia!
Le abilità che impattano sul danno causato dagli attacchi a distanza saranno inoltre un must: Evocatori come Quix the Devious possono essere particolarmente efficaci, così come abilità quali Headwinds.
Tra le abilità difensive si rivelano particolarmente utili Shield, che dimezza i danni subiti, e Dodge e Blind, che aiutano le nostre creature a schivare più facilmente gli attacchi avversari.
Spostiamoci sul Campo di Battaglia!
Passiamo allora ad analizzare una partita disputata con questa regola di gioco:
La scelta di carte a disposizione non è particolarmente ampia, visti i rulesets presenti in partita, per cui io ed il mio avversario ci ritroviamo a schierare due formazioni molto simili: tra le differenze più importanti c'è però quella relativa all'Evocatore, con Quix the Devious che fornisce un importante malus alle creature nemiche.
Anche la velocità potrebbe giocare un ruolo, grazie alla presenza in seconda posizione di Naga Assassin, che potrebbe rivelarsi un bersaglio difficile da colpire per il mio avversario.
Grazie al bonus conferito dalla morte di Venari Marksrat, Naga Assassin inizia subito a creare problemi al team nemico, che si trova a mandare vuoti diversi attacchi.
Nel mentre le mie carte non sbagliano un colpo e continuano ad eliminare le creature avversarie, riducendo sempre più la potenza di fuoco del team nemico.
Solo nel corso del quinto turno Naga Assassin viene finalmente abbattuta, ma ormai la differenza tra i due schieramenti è troppo ampia da poter essere colmata: le mie carte ancora in vita fanno molti più danni ed il passare dei turni rende la mia vittoria sempre più inevitabile.
Nonostante il mio vantaggio la battaglia si trascina ancora per diversi turni ed è solo nel corso dell'undicesimo che la mia squadra riesce a mettere la parola "fine" sul match.
MVP della partita
Naga Assassin grazie alla sua velocità dà il tempo al resto del mio team di spezzare le difese avversarie, dandomi fin dai primi turni un vantaggio fondamentale per conquistare la vittoria.

Il minor numero di opzioni a disposizione richiede infatti di sfruttare al massimo ogni più piccolo vantaggio: la velocità, come spesso accade, si rivela un parametro da tenere in grande considerazione, capace da solo di spostare gli esiti della battaglia in mio favore.
