Hive P v. S Maintenance Update

One and a half year has passed since the initial release and Hive P v. S has not received an update for a year or so. There has not been any issues reported and the game seems to have been running as intended.

During the year both Apple and Google have updated their requirements for the minimum target version of iOS and Android respectively, requiring Hive P v. S to be updated to remain in compliance.

While at it the game has been updated for all platforms. Nothing new has been added to the game, it is purely a maintenance update.

Release notes

  • Updated dependencies.
  • Updated build tools.
  • Updated Steamworks library (applicable for Steam release only).
  • Better fullscreen behaviour (iOS and Android).
  • Minor fixes and tweaks.

This game was a lot more fun than I expected, man. Not bad for a first game, huh? It was fun that the thing we were managing was in the form of a Hive.

Thanks for trying it out! Yup, good attempt! As the level nr works as a multiplier, you have to work hard at the start for a good score until you unlock higher levels.

Hmm I didn't notice that, maybe I should try more to understand what can I do better and unlock higher levels. I might share another screenshot if I can exceed my record

i eventually got kind of bored with just Munch, and the lazer beam, so i let myself die. is there a way to speed up the accumulation of score? i didnt know what else there was to do besides kill that one star thing with the tail. i really like the particle graphics and the music! the sounds are all really nice on the ears... maybe besides "MUNCH" im not sure... its just a weird word for the acouncer to say every single time. like why munch? shouldnt it be food he is getting? the game is cool because of how simple it is and how you only need to use your mouse. i bet you could make a way funnier version of this game theres so much you could do

You have to fill up the meter on the left before killing the star that chases you. This unlocks the next level. With new levels comes new power ups, the star/tail learns new abilities and other events.

oooohhhhh okk ill play again

Yep always worked flawless I can confirm. Booting up steam version on occasion!
(by the way how was publishing on there?)

Publishing on Steam is good. There is a lot of info and assets needed to fill a submission, so it takes a bit of time. I also think it is probably a bit confusing at first with setting up depots, keys, builds and what not, but it is OK if you follow the documentation. Done it one time, then it is easy. In comparison to itch it does take a lot more time to get done. With that said, if you consider possibility to sell games, you can most likely assume selling 10x what you do on any other platform.

I'm curious, why do you use the Opera GX site for the web build? Is there a benefit from doing so?

The Opera GX for web build allowed me to put it online because building the html version from game maker gave really bad performance. It seems they prioritized that Opera over classic html. I'll give it another go building it in html now that is almost finished.

That's cool to hear, do you think throwing a game with little marketing on steam is dead on arrival or by itself more people see it. I'm kinda on the verge ahah

You can send the game to curators, there are tools to do so on steam for developers. You can also use keysender services, like lurkit or keymailer (I think both have free options). Do some looking around to find people that review games like your, on steam or YouTube etc, and send keys with an honest why you think they might be interested.

Costs 100 USD to put a game on steam. Don't price it too low, as it limits have much you can discount it during sales.

Thank you for advise! I'll be gearing up towards that slowly then because those stuff I'm really bad at and I have to study them a bit

this game reminds me of a little ship game I played in my childhood.

Like asteroids or something else? You recall the name?

I used to play a game similar to this when I was little. It was a game like Asteroids. It was a very fun and long game. :D

Haha yes, lots of similar/variations on this type of game

this game is super cool

Thanks! Not as cool as @stoken.quest though ;)

wow!
