This is my entry to the #monomad challenge.
This weekend, while staying in Mammoth Lakes, I had the chance to visit once again Mono Lake. This is one of those unique places with amazing views. Usually the best time to take pictures there is early morning or late afternoon to get perfect reflections of the Tufa Flowers, and colourfull skies (pink and purple), bit this time I was there in the middle of the afternoon with the sun up. Since I didn't have all the colours, black and white shows a lot of contrast and the pictures looks amazing. What do you think?
Here is some info about Mono Lake:
Mono Lake is a majestic body of water covering about 65 square miles. It is an ancient lake, over 1 million years old -- one of the oldest lakes in North America. It has no outlet. Throughout its long existence, salts and minerals have washed into the lake from Eastern Sierra streams. Freshwater evaporating from the lake each year has left the salts and minerals behind so that the lake is now about 2 1/2 times as salty as the ocean and very alkaline. Tufa Flowers are calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water.

Esta é a minha participação no desafio #monomad.
Neste fim de semana, enquanto estava em Mammoth Lakes, tive a chance de visitar mais uma vez o Mono Lake. Esse é um daqueles lugares únicos com vistas incríveis. Normalmente, o melhor horário para tirar fotos lá é no início da manhã ou no final da tarde, pra pegar reflexos perfeitos das flores de tufa e céus coloridos (rosa e roxo), mas dessa vez eu estava lá no meio da tarde, com o sol a pino. Como eu não tinha todas as cores, o preto e branco mostra muito contraste e as fotos ficaram incríveis. O que você acha?

O Mono Lake é um majestoso corpo de água que cobre cerca de 65 milhas quadradas. É um lago antigo, com mais de 1 milhão de anos, um dos lagos mais antigos da América do Norte. Ele não tem saída (escoamento). Ao longo de sua longa existência, sais e minerais foram arrastados para o lago pelos córregos da Eastern Sierra. A água doce que evapora do lago a cada ano acumulou sais e minerais, de modo que o lago agora é cerca de duas vezes e meia mais salgado que o oceano e muito alcalino. As flores de tufa são espirais e saliências de carbonato de cálcio formadas pela interação de fontes de água doce e água alcalina do lago.
