Christ's words begin with the promise of the Spirit of truth, who would guide these along the path of truth and towards the establishment of the entirety of the new covenant, and who announces what is to come (John 16:13). These, according to what Christ himself, would not be able to bear at that moment, either due to momentary intellectual incapacity or emotional incapacity due to the moment they were in, given the context of the separation between the apostles and Christ, which probably momentarily harmed their capacity. of judgment.

This Spirit will glorify Christ (John 16:14), portraying the fullness of Christ's sacrifice to everyone who receives it (making it clear that it is the Holy Spirit mentioned in Acts 2:3-4) and bringing blessings to those who possess it. common from Christ himself, such as the gifts of tongues and healing (Acts 2:3-4).

The apostles still doubted the meaning of the Lord's words (John 16:17-18), mainly because they did not understand the meaning of what was said, and were surprised by Christ's explanation. We are born imperfect, cursed with guilt that was inherited, not caused, with a flawed and sinful nature. However, just as sin entered this world through the old Adam, sin is also erased by the new Adam, and the old sinful life gives way to a new life filled with happiness and hope. However, to do this, as Paul implies (Galatians 2:20), we must crucify our old sinful past, so that we may live in Christ, and so that Christ may live in us. Por fim, o texto termina com o Filho prometendo que as orações dirigidas ao Pai em seu nome serão ouvidas (João 16:23).

Nascemos imperfeitos, amaldiçoados com uma culpa que nos foi herdada, e não causada, com uma natureza falha e pecaminosa.
