The first few days of work were quite busy, so as soon as I could, I took a taxi to downtown Bogota for a short and improvised stroll through that bustling area of the city.
I remember it was a Sunday, a somewhat rainy day but it didn't hinder walking through the streets. Bogota is a fairly large city, so even though I knew it was impossible to explore it completely on this short trip, I wanted to make the most of my time to absorb information about its culture.
Its historic center is impressive and very interesting to me. Venezuela and Colombia share a common history, closely linked during the colonial period and the subsequent struggle for independence, so there is a certain sense of closeness when walking through its streets.
In this game of recognizing similarities and differences, we are building an image of the other's identity and, at the same time, our own. I believe this trip to Bogota has had a lot to do with that.
I was in Plaza de Bolivar, which was once the Plaza Mayor during the colonial era. The size of the square and the construction of institutional buildings around it, starting with the imposing church, speak of the political importance of this city during the Viceroyalty period, and its political influence is still dynamic today.
Just by looking at those old church doors facing the square, one can feel the power of the church in Bogota's society of the past. The stone-carved images of saints and virgins, the arches, and columns transport the mind to those times
The rain and the night abruptly cut short my tour, where I had no choice but to take a taxi back to the hotel, but I became more spatially aware of this area of the city that I definitely want to explore further on a future trip.

Primer paseo por el centro de Bogotá.
Los primeros días de trabajo fueron bastante movidos, así que apenas pude, tomé un taxi hacia el centro de Bogotá para realizar un paseo corto e improvisado por esa concurrida zona de la ciudad.
Recuerdo que fue un domingo, un día algo lluvioso pero que no impedía caminar por las calles. Bogotá es una ciudad bastante grande, por lo que aunque sabía que era imposible recorrerla completamente en este corto viaje, quería aprovechar al máximo el tiempo para ir absorbiendo datos de su cultura.
Su centro histórico es imponente y muy interesante para mí. Venezuela y Colombia comparten una historia común, muy vinculada en la colonia y en la posterior gesta independentista, por lo que existe cierta sensación de cercanía al recorrer sus calles.
En ese juego de reconocimiento de similitudes y diferencias es que vamos construyendo una imagen de identidad del otro y al mismo tiempo, de nosotros mismos. Creo que este viaje por Bogotá ha tenido mucho que ver con eso.
Estuve en la Plaza de Bolívar, lo que alguna vez fue la Plaza Mayor en la época colonial. El tamaño de la plaza y la construcción de edificaciones institucionales a su alrededor, empezando por la imponente iglesia, hablan de la importancia política de esta ciudad para la época del virreinato, y aún la fuerza política de esa aún es dinámica en la actualidad.
Solo mirando esas viejas puertas de la iglesia frente a la plaza, se deja sentir el poder de la iglesia en la sociedad bogotana de antaño. Las imágenes de santos y vírgenes talladas en piedra, los arcos y columnas transportaban la mente a aquellos tiempos.
La lluvia y la noche cortaron abruptamente mi recorrido, donde no tuve más remedio que tomar un taxi de regreso al hotel, pero donde fui tomando más conciencia espacial de esta zona de la ciudad que definitivamente quiero conocer mejor en un próximo viaje
I like the buildings are too high, but the materials used are not modern but have a strong foundation.
Yeah! Those structures will be standing for more than 200 years. Bogotá combines the old with the modern very well
How nice. It's older than you and me. I like how the government maintains the history of the place.
