¡Hola, amigos de Hive amantes de las plantas!
Como cada mañana hice un espacio en mi rutina para atender mi jardín, no solo porque me relaja, sino también porque lo necesita. Cuando estuve enferma de covid mi hija se iba al trabajo y mi esposo y yo no podíamos levantarnos de la cama por el malestar, no había nadie que cuidara de mis plantitas y muchas de ellas se secaron completamente.
Algunas de las plantas que se perdieron fueron mis "Caladium", estas son muy sensibles a los cambios climáticos y no resisten muy bien la sequía. Tengo dos variedades, una conocida como: "Caladium Corazón de Jesús" y la otra es conocida como "Caladium Lengua de Dragón", la verdad es muy difícil decirles exactamente cuáles son sus nombres científicos, ya que existen cientos de variedades de Caladium Bicolor, apenas con ligeras variaciones.

Like every morning, I made a space in my routine to attend to my garden, not only because it relaxes me, but also because I need it. When I was sick with covid, my daughter went to work and my husband and I couldn't get out of bed because of the discomfort, there was no one to take care of my little plants and many of them dried up completely.
Some of the plants that were lost were my "Caladium", these are very sensitive to climatic changes and do not resist drought very well. I have two varieties, one known as: "Caladium Jesus's Heart" and the other is known as "Caladium Dragon Tongue", the truth is very difficult to tell you exactly what their scientific names are, since there are hundreds of varieties of caladium bicolor, with only slight variations.
Estas plantitas se secaron, aparentemente, por completo, de forma que sus macetas quedaron vacías, pero yo no las toqué. Al cabo de varios meses empezó a brotar una pequeña hojita en cada una y así fue que me di cuenta que aún había vida en ellas. En ese momento empezó el proceso de recuperación.
These little plants dried up, apparently completely, so that their pots were empty, but I did not touch them. After several months a small leaf began to sprout on each one and that's how I realized that there was still life in them. At that moment the recovery process began.
These plants are native to America, they need a lot of light, but they do not like direct sun, they also need watering, but good drainage so that their roots do not get flooded. Its roots are small tubers, which is why they had remained dormant underground waiting for better conditions.
Su valor ornamental está en el color y la forma de sus hojas, ya que sus flores son pequeñas y a veces hasta pueden pasar desapercibidas. A mí nunca me han florecido. Si las siembras directamente en la tierra o en jardineras amplias, puede alcanzar un tamaño considerable, con hojas de unos 50 - 60 centímetros.
No tiene un valor nutricional o medicinal, al contrario, es una planta tóxica, por lo que no la recomiendo para interiores cuando se tienen niños pequeños, ya que los niños pueden ser atraídos por el color de sus hojas y cortarlas para jugar. El contacto con la sabia puede causar irritación de la piel y su consumo, vómitos e intoxicación.
Siempre es recomendable conocer sobre las plantas que tenemos en nuestros hogares, para sacar provecho de aquellas con propiedades medicinales y estar prevenidos por aquellas que pueden tener alguna toxicidad.
Bien, después de muchos meses de cuidado he recuperado mis Caladium, ha sido una tarea que requirió paciencia y constancia. El próximo paso es su reproducción, pero para ello debo sacar la planta de la maceta y ver con cuantos tubérculos cuenta para separarlos.
Espero que disfrutaran este paseo por mi jardín y que me cuenten si conocían los Caladium. Quiero agradecer a mi hija por su recomendación para presentar mis publicaciones en dos idiomas, usando estas dobles columnas, aunque se me hizo un poco complicado, al final lo logré y eso me da mucha alegría.
Its ornamental value is in the color and shape of its leaves, since its flowers are small and sometimes can even go unnoticed. They have never bloomed for me. If you sow them directly into the ground or in large planters, it can reach a considerable size, with leaves of about 50 - 60 centimeters.
It does not have nutritional or medicinal value, on the contrary, it is a toxic plant, so I do not recommend it for indoors when you have small children, since children can be attracted by the color of its leaves and cut them to play. It is always advisable to know about the plants that we have in our homes, to take advantage of those with medicinal properties and be prepared for those that may have some toxicity.
Well, after many months of care I have recovered my Caladium, it has been a task that required patience and perseverance. The next step is its reproduction, but for this I must take the plant out of the pot and see how many tubers it has to separate them.
