POBphotocontest ~ COLD ~ ENDURING THE WINTER.

in Proof of Brain6 months ago

When the cold rolls into town I often wonder how these splendid

four-leg creatures survive what lies ahead.

Living where we do, the pressure to make it until next spring mounts on the Whitetail deer, with every passing day. The deer are prized in this region, as hunters enter the woods in mid-November with bows in hand looking to fill their freezers with venison and mount their heads on their walls. The bow season is followed by gun season which lasts through December.
If they make it this far, the next test of their perseverance comes as temps continue to plummet into single digits.
The cold weather brings along with it a lack of food.

As they trudge through the snow their exhaustion is palpable.

The yearlings find it more difficult to get around, than their mothers.
Many of them will not make it through the long cold winters.

As the deer look for food, they exit the cover of the woodlands and graze the open fields partially covered in snow.

They are wary, with eyes wide open and ears pointed to the sky,
they are on full alert.

Water that once cascaded from the fissures of the rock-faced mountains has now turned to solid ice, no longer providing them with fresh water that pooled at their base.

As we sit in our comfortable homes sipping on warm beverages,
the White-tailed deer fight the elements,
striving to see another sunrise.

Thank you very much.

I’ve never seen a Deer before
Do you have an idea if they are harmful?

They are a sight to behold. They are very docile animals, always trying to avoid contact with humans.

After snowfall, all these places start to look more beautiful and these animals also look more beautiful. We see that everywhere we see white color.

The snow makes a great backdrop for photographing these splendid animals.

The snow was really much and I haven't seen a deer before

If you ever had a chance to see this splendid animal, you would be in for a treat.

It is so amazing to know how the deer can survived in that cold environment, still could find grass or foliage to eat.
I think their fur comes in handy, and useful for them. ALl the best in the contest.

Scientists just discovered a cow-like plant.
They’re calling it a BO-VINE.

Thanks, The White-tailed deer are very hardy animals and very resourceful. When there's snow on the ground they will use their hooves to kick up the snow until they get down to the grass. Here's a picture of just that.

Such a cute charming deer in the snow. Very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Living in the middle of nowhere we see these magnificent animals quite often and it's always a thrill.
Thanks for stopping in.

Wow, so beautiful, I love how snowy bushes look but I cat stand cold, no I can't, it makes me uncomfortable.

It takes some getting used to for sure. When there is snow on the ground, everything looks so pure. Not that we have a lot of litter in our area like you seem to have, but when it snows, everything looks so pristine.

What a gorgeous scene although the deer battle through winter, somehow they do. Would thoroughly enjoy seeing the four seasons on your remote land. Do you ever encounter large wild mountain cats or similar in the region?

Along with gorgeous scenery during this time of year, we see them more often during this period due to the fact it's rutting time, those horny little devils will come out from hiding to quench their desires.

Enjoying the different seasons is a big part of why we stayed in this area, there is a marked difference from one season to the next.

We have never seen a bear, but others in the area have. I've never heard of anyone seeing a mountain lion. I have seen foxes, coyotes, and the very vicious Fisher Cat. The Fisher Cat is probably the most vicious of them all. Hunters in our area trap them every year.

I hope this pic doesn't disturb you, but trapping has gone on for generations in our region, it's part of the way of life for folks around here.

Better yet, here is a link to a post I did 4 years ago. this way you can decide if you would like to view it.

I ran into this gentleman just up the street from us.

Thanks for the link, most interesting an animal I have never heard about, live and learn!

America is big so many regions I know some have mountain lion warnings, bear warnings, much like us it does not mean we see them often or ever for that matter.

!BEER

But, when we do see them 1st hand, what a treat.

Hey @thebigsweed, here is a little bit of BEER from @joanstewart for you. Enjoy it!

We love your support by voting @detlev.witness on HIVE .

Oh I love this.
(Do you too stock your freezer with venison? I can just read more of your posts to find out!)
