I am finally seeing fungi in the woods again for #fungifriday
Here is Mycena leaiana a nice bright orange fungi to spot when it gets warm and humid.
The common name is orange mycena.
This is a smaller batch that is just starting to pin.
They start out less orange and eventually get really dark orange when fully fanned out.
The gill pattern is symmetrical as with most mycena. An interesting feature of the chemical that makes it orange kills cancerous tumors. It would probably have to be applied directly for any medicinal effect.
Here is wolf's milk slime mold another fungi that loves hot humid weather. The Latin name is Lycogala epidendrum and it really has no medicinal or culinary uses. It is fun to pop like a pimple though lol.
As I was finding the fungi I noticed some 12 year cicadas emerging.
Soon these guys will be covering the trees in swarms and all the birds and animals will be feasting on them. 12 years ago I even cooked a couple from a Thai recipe and they have a sort of chicken and shrimp taste to them. You have to get them right as they first emerge from their shells.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Saturday Finds for #fungifriday 🤔 😆
I'll probably skip them this time around.
