“Children are a gift from God” that is what people always say. But then you will always hear this statement from someone with 15 kids and expecting 1 on the way and who can’t seem to take care of his family due to how many they are. Yes, children are perfect gifts from God that is the more reason you shouldn’t bring them into this world to suffer.
When I see people who are without kids and then they say the reason is that they are not ready for kids, I tend to see reasons with them. Those are the ones that know what they want, most times when they are ready for kids, their kids tend to enjoy the good things of life. I wouldn’t blame countries that regulate the number of kids a family should have.

It is too bad that my country does not regulate the number of kids families can have. There was a time when a census was carried out and my dad told me that the country would see to the number of kids families should have to help with better census and family planning. Well that didn’t come to reality. I have seen families with 11 children, sometimes you will be left to wonder if it is a polygamous home, it is not most times as you could find a nuclear family with 11 kids as if it is a football team.
Looking at this, I am not saying having so many kids is wrong but then most times this is usually common with families that can not afford to feed two people, they end up giving birth to lots of kids when they can not take care of 1. When I see situations like this I frown at it. It was more common in old times but it is surprising that people still do that.

I think the government should get involved in things like this. If there is a rule that every family has a certain number of kids to have. I am certain that people would try to abide by that rule. I have seen a movie where the government made a rule that you should only have 3 kids and if you happen to have more then your child will be taken and given to a family that needs a child. If the government creates a way to regulate the kids families have, I am certain a lot of things will change it might take a while for the rule to be upheld but with time it will.
Will regulating the number of children in a family make things better?
Yes, regulating the number of kids a family has will improve the grand scheme of things. Imagine having lots of kids that you cannot feed, that alone could lead to so many things, starvation, and then the child ends up stealing and the rest. When you have the right amount of kids, you are certain you can care for then there won’t be any problem at all. Looking at the bright side of things no one deserves to suffer so get the number of kids you can have.
I know most times we do not plan for some kids but then family planning could also help.

People who bring children into the world without being ready to cater to them properly are just selfish. Because it is these undeserving souls that end up taking the brunt of the situation.

The benefits of regulating birth control can not be overemphasized. But we lack that in Nigeria and that is why we have so many orphanage home. People are just giving birth without taking care of their children. God help us.
Although it's a huge simplification, I think the solution might be for the government to focus on adequate pension provision for all, combined with free healthcare for at least key health issues. Funding it is a separate (and difficult) issue !
While I'm really aware that solutions from the West are often totally wrong outside Europe (and should never be imposed !) I also think there's no harm in considering whether the lessons we learned in Europe would work in Africa.
In this case, it's notable that before around 1900, Europe had the same kind of issue with family size. In the following decade or so, most European nations bought in old age pensions (Germany was first, in 1889, the UK and Spain in 1908, etc). There were definitely cultural changes around the same time, and the quality of healthcare improved at the same time. But within a generation, family size dropped from an average of 10 children to around 2.3, as people didn't have to have enough children in the hope that some would survive long enough to look after them in their old age.

In the first place, pregnancy should be planned, except for rare cases where mothers usually take in unprepared maybe due to a failed family planning or other reasons. Having said that, it's uncalled for having many children without resources to provide for their basic needs. Even if government doesn't step in, we have our common senses to know that child's responsibility is on our shoulder and we should close legs if the resources aren't available, lol. However implementing family size policy will be a dream come true 🤗

My case is not with the government regulating anything. Its wuth those who do not have enough to cater for more kids and who know that they don't have enough, yet go ahead to birth a full team and end up abusing these kids and making them suffer.

Excellent publication, I agree with you in everything you say. We cannot bring into the world children who will go hungry, who will not be able to study, who will work and not enjoy their youth. We are creating social resentments that sooner or later will be a big problem for society. Governments should educate these low income families because it is beneficial for countries not to bring children into the world that you cannot raise. Greetings.

The enlightened people know that having too many kids that they won't be able to properly take care of is more or less a crime and that's why they have just few. But you see Papa Emeka the lazy carpenter will tell you that God said we should increase and multiply, therefore he must have a complete football team of children, with no means of raising them. It's high time the government made a law to take such men to rehab homes because they have lost it. Smh 🤦♂️

Girl, you are right. It beats me when I see people who can barely feed actively having kids. It is like they lack knowledge. Hence, what the government needs to do is massive education and awareness. Some people can afford more kids and it may not be fair to regulate them because of ignorance. I believe the rule should be that if you must have kids, then your capacity should be able to cater for an extra, if not, you will be charged.
