Rundown Church

The church is no longer popular since the 60s it's a rundown in the Netherlands. It's hard to tell if people no longer believe or if it is the church's (priest/reference) attitude scaring away the believers. If the institute had modernized earlier it might have been attractive but it's not if old men try to rule over young people and preach about hell no soul longer believes in. Church won't help you out if you are in need. All you do is pay, pay and pay so unsubscribed at the age of 18/19 since I had no intention of giving them 10% of my income.

I read not too long ago the church I "belonged" to fusion with another church. The city asked the citizens what to do with those buildings and if they thought it was fine if different religions shared the same building. To me it is and I hope they will keep them since it's part of history and architecture like this no longer exists.
The first photo is "De Oude Jan" (the old John" a church not used for services but you can get married there if you like. This church is on the monument list and is always part of the Dutch church trail called "kerkepad".

In the same street (kerkstraat = church street) you find the next church.

This church is renovated bigger and I noticed two different religions share it today. Not one of them is the religion that used it 50 years ago. This was the church my grandparents visited (or not if they tried to avoid certain people like the criminal brother).

Many churches changed into expedition halls, galleries, offices, shops or apartments. In a village nearby they did a great job renovating three older buildings. It saves the character of the village/town. The new buildings are ugly and what attracts the attention most is all the humidity in the walls. Renovating the average old houses built around the 20s and 30s seems to be a more difficult task since instead of looking better those renovations are done in a cheap, low-budget way by people who have no clue what they are doing.

This was a church too. The windows at the side are beautiful. It was empty for longer. Next, a restaurant was in it for about one year. Today it is a Cello shop.

This church is kind of unused. Around the building it's a mess and a daycare or school is behind it. Most likely built on the former Church Square.

In the same street is, I should say was another church.

This is all there's left, the church's tower. The villagers fought to keep it since with it, it keeps the village. There are offices in it today and it's possible to climb the tower and have a view over the village.

They are beautiful in architecture indeed ... but when the people are gone, the church actually goes too ...
