Happy poem

This is a happy poem,
it doesn’t acknowledge how you really feel.
It’s a Rumi quote on a stock photo.
You’re a happy white middle class cis het dream.
You own a pool,
and have 2.5 happy children.
You store the .5 child in a flask, where their life is meaningful.
Your husband loves you and makes lots of money.
You could be male or female, whatever makes you happy.
Your last holiday was to an underprivileged country,
where you handed out bibles and shoes.
Something useful, you know, because they don’t have fridges, and food would go off.
If this was an add they’d oversaturate the light, so you glow,
like you have a halo, because you do.
You don’t know anyone with a mental illness, because that would be too hard.
You have one “ethnic” friend, so people can’t call you racist.
You could be gay or straight, but you’re most definitely white.
Nothing touches you because you wear non slip clothing,
and you dress your children in cling film.
You’re getting this COVID thing just right.
You’re baking bread and crafting; you started that novel.
You run everyday and document it for your 10000 Instagram followers.
You’ve started a YouTube channel doing yoga and reading inspirational quotes,
You already have a 1 million followers.
You got this.
God bless you, thoughts and prayers.

This poem has some real bite to it. I like it.

Especially these two lines, where it almost feels like you’re condemning the ‘you’ of the poem to get COVID, like there’s absolutely no escaping it, while simultaneously giving a very strong critique to the world we live in and the privilege of undertaking a safe lockdown where a person can actually take action toward achieving his/her dreams.

You’re getting this COVID thing just right.
You’re baking bread and crafting; you started that novel.

Thank you so much. I was worried about the content.

I don’t think you have to worry about touchy points of view so much on this platform. Not as much as on other platforms anyway.
