Hello, travelling enthusiasts! I was on a 5-day trip to Barcelona last week and here I'll continue sharing about the experience and some wonderful places we visited. I was skeptical that this popular destination will be too fancy and crowded for my nature but it turned out to be beautiful and heartwarming.
We planned a detailed itinerary before the trip, making sure to visit the best spots in the city. Of course the beach is one of them. I can't tell you if it's a regular occurrence in Barcelona (I'm guessing it's not) but the wind was hitting strong, especially as you get close to the beach. We weren't really prepared for it clothing-wise, enduring the chilly air in our thin layers.
But the cloudy sky and wind go hand in hand and, on our first day at the beach the sight was beautiful for photographing and for a meditation on the shore. The rugged beauty of the coastline against the dramatic sky creates a captivating scene, perfect for moody and atmospheric photographs.
As you can see, there were still people around, some were even plunging in the cold, turbulent sea. Others are playing volleyball and other sports, chasing with their dogs or cycling along the coast. The path for bicycles goes along the entire beach and there are stations were you can rent the bike and explore this beautiful route (you'll need to install an app to do that and follow the instructions).
After spending the afternoon on the beach, next day we visited the park Guell (more about that experience in the next post) and wanted to climb to the spot which overlooks the entire city. A walking distance from the park, through forest path then via the many uphill stairs, you get to the highest viewpoint in the city - The bunkers of Carmel.
Here you feel like you are on top of the world, 360 degrees around you can see all areas of Barcelona, you can recognize the famous cathedrals rising above the buildings and get a view of the sea on the horizon. Even though it's called bunkers, it was used as antiaircraft facility during the Spanish war. After being abandoned, it becomes more and more popular among the tourists and locals as a spot to watch the sunset, have a picnic and enjoy conversations with friends. Large concrete structures serve well as a place to sit and enjoy the view.
As a street photographer, I usually try to include people in my shots and here you can really feel the sense of scale and the vastness of the city below us. I definitely recommend visited this spot if you ever find yourself in Barcelona. Photos taken with Fuji X-Pro2 + 35mm F/2 lens.
I know exactly which mountain that is you went up! I walked up that same one as the sun began to set, on one of my last days in Spain. I remember watching the city's lights slowly start to turn on, how it suddenly became a little quieter, and how I started to feel a little sadness that I'd soon be leaving.
I understand, melancholy hits when you zoom out and see the city from the distance. Same as when you are on the plain and leaving town. Luckily we were there on the second day of the trip and still had few to enjoy it. :)
Oh my, I almost missed this.
With these vivid descriptions, I can tell Barcelona is indeed beautiful. One day maybe, I'd get to visit and take beautiful photographs too.

Oh my! That is such a beautiful place! When I think of Spain, architecture will always come to mind and not the beach. You captured great photos too!

It is good that place also have bikes for rent, we can have a really good time biking while exploring the wonderful beach. I really amazed of the hidden stories just like bunkers used during Barcelona war. I really wish I could visit the place.
