Hello adventurous friends! Today I am at one of the highest points in Sintra and I think probably in Portugal, it was a day full of adventure and adrenaline, we are going to see beautiful landscapes and take a walk within the Sintra nature reserve until we climb 436 meters and reach the "Pedra Amarela" viewpoint at the same time we will contemplate a system of rocks that decorate our landscape!🚩🚙🌍

About the nature reserve🌍/Sobre la reserva natural🚩

As you can see, the first impression when we entered the park is something fantastic, the "da pedra amarela" reserve has a very well signposted entrance and from here we can see all the trails we can do! It is located south of Sintra and is a camp where we can do endless activities, from tree climbing to picnics, even in the highest areas we can climb! The trail I did is 18km long and starts long before the entrance! that is, at the following coordinates: (38.751674, -9.447667)🌷🌻🧭

When we enter the park we are shown a sign with the local fauna and flora, if we are lucky we can see everything from eagles to some owls, we can find more than 4 species of snakes all harmless, also plants like Garcinia sp typical of the Mediterranean landscape! For me, the best days you can visit the reserve are Monday to Friday to avoid people!🐍🐢🐊🦎🦫

Here we have the map that shows us an exact route of all the official trails of the "Pedra Amarela" as well as the unofficial ones, to complete the trail route you can take about 4 hours or a little more, the best time for me is summer but be careful with the heat, bring plenty of water and a hat! Another curious fact is that you can see the relief of the area so you have an idea of the height of where you are! As you can see the highest point of the trail is 400 meters!🧭🌻🌷🚩

Beginning of the adventure🌍/Comienzo de la aventura🚩

From what I saw there are many areas that seem to have a circular shape with stones. Probably people gather here for activities, the boy scouts frequently come to the reserve to learn how to read maps and other natural activities! Being a reserve you cannot make fires or bonfires!🌍🚩

Stop at the lagoon🌍/Parada en la laguna🚩

first stop🍁🍍🌻

After walking a little less than 2km we arrived at our first stop, it is an artificial fountain where we are going to cool off and orient ourselves with the map that shows us the current position, here I took the opportunity to hydrate myself and eat a little, since the next few kilometers are Quite demanding, only some very steep climbs! 🧭🌏👩‍🏫

The climb begins🌍/Comienza la subida🚩

This is our second stop, it is the "Penedo de Alves" viewpoint, here we are at 230 meters high, perhaps a little more, the landscape is increasingly beautiful, we have a good view over the center of Lisbon, including the 25 de Abril bridge and Vasco de Gama, I advise you that when you try to climb the viewpoints, be very cautious if there is wind, better do it with climbing poles! You can fall and break your leg!🚩🌍

I am almost in the final stretch of the trail, here we arrive at the viewpoint, the second highest point of our climb, we still have to complete about 150 meters, here the signage disappears and you have to take alternative routes. It was quite complicated to get to the stones, many bushes with thorns, and we have to be careful when uploading them! When we reach a stone we can see the landscape and the ocean in the distance!🌲🌍

for adrenaline lovers🍁🍍🌻

As I told you before, to get the best views you need to climb the stones that are on the mountain, this can be a little complicated because some are several meters high and if you slip it is dangerous! If you are used to these activities it will be easy, remember to wear hiking boots! and avoid rainy days 🧭🌏👩‍🏫

Last viewpoint "pedra amarela"🌍/Ultimo mirador "pedra amarela"🚩

and here ends my adventure on the pedra amarela trail! It was quite an odyssey, I ended up photographing the most beautiful landscapes of Sintra and care of all of Portugal! For me it is a worthwhile experience if you come backpacking to the country and don't want to spend a lot! The trail has a parking lot where you can even stay in a tent! You can take several days to complete all the trails in Sintra! I would rate it 5/5 stars, it has a bit of everything, if you have any physical condition, forget it, don't risk it, it's a bit dangerous! You may complete it but not 100% because you only have to climb to go up to the viewpoint!🌍🌲
