Trail through the Lages Waterfalls🌍 / Sendero por las Cascadas Lages🧭(En-En)E

in Pinmapple22 days ago
Good morning adventurous friends, I stopped by this super community to bring you a post full of beautiful images and history! For this I went to visit the parish of Formariz known for its beautiful landscapes, inside I took a route of more than 12km to visit the Lages Waterfalls, despite there being no signage along the route, if we use Gmaps we completed the route without any problem. I loved that I was able to observe various types of architecture, some more than 300 years old, and that makes the trail not only about nature! Join me on this adventure!🌍🌿🚵🏻

Let's start describing the trail, first of all it is an adventure for people with average experience in hikes of these characteristics, you are going to walk more than 12km so you need a minimum level of resistance, as you can see in the images the terrain varies depending on the area and we can climb hills more than 320 meters high or walk between small limestone rock paths that if you go on a rainy day are dangerous and slippery! The best height to visit for me is in spring, on sunny days, it has a good temperature and even the waterfalls have water! Winter you can too but the terrain will be quite a challenge! NEVER IN SUMMER, IN SUMMER THE WATERFALLS HAVE NO WATER🚙🚵🏻

Here the walk begins, it is the small village of "ribeira dos tostões" known for its influence on agriculture, here there is really not much to see but a nice church and some old bridges, also a river that runs through the village, And in the distance you can see several mountain ranges such as Sintra, Cascais, others in the area with windmills! Approximately from this point it is 6km to reach one waterfall and another 1.5km to the other!🌻🍀🏡

Hike to the waterfalls🌍/Caminata hacia las cascadas🚩

While you walk along the valley you will have to pass through several villages, some smaller than others and observing that Catholic and architectural touch in each place is impressive, I don't know why, but I have a certain weakness in the tiles, some of them are even personalized, making them Each house or tourist site has its own identity, then we see some structures dating from the 15th-16th century in the era of discovery! The area is very calm and you don't see tourists almost anywhere!🌻🌲🍁

extension of the river🍁🍍🌷🌻

At this point of the walk approximately 2km we begin to see the river, the river is comprised of small extensions of the Lizandro that by the way I described in a previous post since I passed through one of the main bridges, these waterfalls are from streams derived from the Lizandro, which are also fed by rain, I already told you that all the waterfalls have quite difficult access! and in summer they are not available!🧭🌏👩‍🏫

First waterfall of Lage 5km🌍/Primera cascada de Lage 5km🚩

And we have literally completed a large part of the trail, despite being somewhat complicated and demanding, the terrain in terms of distance is short and as you can see the landscape is beautiful, the waterfall varies depending on the height of the year, for example if you are in winter the You will see twice the waterfall due to the rain, in spring it is more decent and in summer there is no water, in winter the water is very clean while in spring it is a little dirty clearly the people of the area do not respect nature and throws dirt into the river, contaminating it!🌍🍀

Here I made a small stop to take advantage of the landscape and rest, the other Lage waterfall is a little less than 1km away, only that the second one is difficult to access and we even have to climb rocks which makes the experience quite a challenge, we have to Take a path between fields with crops and follow the river down! There are many villages in the surroundings that have hundreds of years of history, others have been occupied since the Romanesque era and others already had people living there in the Iron Age! for example Mafra Gare was popular for its train line!🌍🍀

Mini trail and second Lage waterfall🌍/Mini sendero y segunda cascada de Lage🚩

We see how in this waterfall the path to get to it is totally different, from the type of soil to the calcareous rocks, which lend themselves to creating a landscape straight out of a fiction movie! I think it's one of my favorite parts of the trail! I also stopped here to take some photos and try to look for amphibians, I saw some species of frogs!🌍🧭

inside the waterfall forest🍍🌻

Well we are a little less than 200 meters from our final destination, the waterfall is totally different from the previous one! In this one we are going to enter a small forest that also has a "brutal" landscape. I loved it, despite the waterfall being small, the landscape is worth the walk and look, it had bad reviews on Google, the access? quite complicated to get to, it is not signposted and it is a short path! You have to look around you, it's a small intersection on the left, don't go straight ahead when Google Maps stops!🧭🌏👩‍🏫

And well friends, with this beautiful setting I say goodbye, we arrived at the second Lage waterfall, it was a fantastic experience, I met new things and places that I never imagined I would find in Portugal! And what did you think?🌍🧭
