Hello traveling friends! We are going to take a short tour in one of the oldest natural parks in Portugal, it is Cabeรงo de Montachique, to visit it we can arrive by public transport, or also if you dare like me, do the path that runs through several hills in the parish of "Pizarra", today was a relaxed day, I didn't try very hard to get here and even though the walk lasted two hours, the landscape inside the park rewards every minute spent on this beautiful journey! Join me on my adventure!๐ŸŒ„๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงญ

Let's analyze the length of the trail, first of all you will walk about 3-4km if you start from the village of Salemas which we already saw in one of the previous posts, most of the trail you will do on the road so it is not something that It is very physically demanding! I would even say that it is a trail for beginners, however there are moments where you cross some hills and there I recommend that you have hiking boots and walking sticks because you could come across a very muddy path! What is the best height of the year? summer without a doubt! The area is humid and high so even in the summer itself the weather is pleasant! but you won't have as many mosses and mushrooms to photograph!๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ„
๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿšฉ

I leave you the coordinates of the place but as you can see it is essential to use gmaps or you will end up getting lost since you have to follow several dirt roads that do not appear on the map if you have it in vehicle mode! It is worth doing the walk, the Mediterranean landscape is very varied and you won't believe me but I got to see some free ones, footprints of various animals and if you come in the afternoon almost at dusk you may see some wild boars!๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿš™

History of the park๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒ/Historia del parque๐Ÿ๐Ÿšฉ

When we arrive at the park we are greeted by several signs and beautiful images referring to the space that borders the park, which is the "Lousa mountain range", one of the most beautiful parks in the north of Lisbon. The records of the park are that it was built in the 18th century at that time the king was Don Manuel I. I don't know if you had knowledge but for kings and high class people visiting parks like these was good entertainment because hunting was a popular sport among the rich!๐ŸŒ๐Ÿงญ๐Ÿ‚

The most interesting part of the history of the park is when we arrived at the beginning of the 18th century with Napoleon's invasion of the country, and the park was part of the defensive line of Torres Vedras, I also explained this in another of my posts, it was a set of forts that protected the north of Lisbon and this meant that a fort was built within the park which today we can visit and it will seem strange to you but it was what motivated me to visit the park because by photographing it I would literally visit all the forts on the line defensive!๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’‚โ€โ™‚๏ธ

The allies of the Portuguese for almost all of their history were the English and in the case of Napoleon's invasion, General Lord Wellington in 1846 led the battle of Lineas de Torres Vedras and it is reported that in the forest a retreat to Lisbon was ordered when They were surrounded by French troops so there is history among so much vegetation!๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒ

All these stones are actually what remains of the structures that protected the defensive line of Torres Vedras! Today nature claims it!

In 1950 some rumors arose that the waters of Cabeรงo de Montachique had healing properties and there were even some cases of people who were cured of diseases such as: (anemia and anemorrhea among others) and according to science it may make sense because the water is very calcium and this confers a certain level of purity! Therefore the park was frequently visited to collect water that came down the mountain and formed small streams!๐Ÿงญ๐ŸŒ„๐ŸŒพ

As you can see the landscape in the park, despite being very busy and being one of the most visited parks in Lisbon, it remains very protected and virgin and entry is not allowed in many preservation areas, for this the park has an area picnic which is where people can have barbecues among other activities! You cannot enter by bicycle or with pets, you can run inside the park and walk! do physical exercise with machines or even paintball! There is also a tennis court!๐ŸŒ„๐Ÿงญ๐Ÿšฉ
