Sunset at Dreams Curaçao, An Unforgettable Experience!

Most Memorable Moments

One of our most memorable moments while visiting Curaçao, was during an evening when we decided to walk around the resort around sunset time. It was our second day at Dreams Curaçao and we spent the whole day driving around and exploring the Dutch Caribbean Island. It was time to mellow out, relax, and enjoy what we paid for! It was a beautiful, clear evening and the resort grounds were just begging to be explored.

We were situated on the beachfront and there was a private beach as well as nice lookouts and a jetty to enjoy all the ocean had to offer. We first decided to head to the lookout areas to get some pictures and enjoy the views as well as to get a good vantage point to see the rest of the coastline that the resort encompassed.

This above photo shows the aerial view of the lookout area near the pool with the jetty being in the top right where we will be heading after. Heading to the lookout area, we saw pristine blue waters and beneath them were beautiful corals and other flora and fauna. It was amazing just to look down and see such things amidst the waters.

This was one of the views from the lookout area looking out to the jetty side. You can see in that there is also a stairway there in the photo above that allows you to access this area of the ocean for snorkeling and diving to see the coral reef and so on close up! We could also hear nearby that there was some sort of commotion going on but not quite see!

This is another shot from the lookout facing the ocean side. The commotion seemed to be a wedding going on in the gazebo in the background! What perfect weather and setting to have a union in marriage. The sun literally put a golden hue over everything and made the scene look like something out of a movie!

A large yacht was passing by that turned all the calm waters into ominous large swells and violent waves that crashed upon the rocks and on the beach. Our fellow resort guests that were in the beach at the time all started to panic due to the almost instant change in the wave conditions. Some where so startled that they immediately abandoned their bathing while other stood their ground and were erratically thrown around until the large yacht cleared the area.

Once we had our fill of views from the lookout area (there was so much that occurred in such a short space of time), we migrated to the jetty. By now the sun was getting closer to the horizon and we wanted to hit the infinity pool and jacuzzi before it had fully set.

DSC02114.jpg

There was a single small sea vessel docked at the jetty at the time as well as two women out upon it when we arrived that were also taking pictures. When we walked onto the jetty itself, they saw my camera as and asked if we could take pictures of them and they offered to take pictures of my wife and I. I of course obliged and we both got our photos taken!

DSC02129.jpg

This was the photo they took of us with my camera (and we took a photo of them with their camera). It was so delightful as a photographer who is always behind the lens and camera to himself (and his spouse) to captured. Yeah you can always take selfies but it is a different feeling on its own to have someone else do the photography!

DSC02133.jpg

Moving on and walking along the jetty, where was another man who walked past us who was also taking photos. I must say, this was the first time that I ever saw so many photographers in one place at a time! We all were much the same, wanting to captures the beautiful sunset.

DSC02137.jpg

As we waited for the man to finish at the end of the pier, we took more photos of him while he enjoyed the views. In the background you can see the diving platform we well as ANOTHER yacht passing by! This would soon spell more trouble for the waves in the area!

DSC02168.jpg

And so it did! From where we were on the jetty now, we looked toward where we were on the lookout area and saw the gazebo much more clearly as well as the couple and priest at the marriage ceremony. While that was taking place, the waves from the wake of the passing yacht had arrived and pummeled some snorkelers who seemed to be petrified. Luckily because of fluid dynamics, the waved did not displace them horizontally but only vertically and so they were safe from the rocks.

Here is a view of the private beach as well with the huge swells of waves. As you can see, EVERYone evacuated at this point and it was not really fun to bathe with such rough conditions.

DSC02163.jpg

This is what it looked like before, there are literally no waves at all! Simply calm and relaxing! So you can imagine the alarm and horror of the guests when they saw such monstrous waves!

DSC02165.jpg

Turning to the opposite side, we saw another jetty lower down on the coastline that belonged to another nearby resort. There were also other people there who were taking photos!

DSC02148.jpg

I took a final shot of my wife on the jetty before we decided to make a move and this turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the evening! The clouds, the sun, the lighting and as well the water all looked so beautiful.

DJI_0248.jpg

I sent up the drone really quickly before heading to the pool as I wanted to get some shots of a peninsula or land visible just across from the resort. It seemed like something out of the Mediteranean sea right here in the Caribbean with the lush verdant hill and almost pure white rocks that lined its coastline.

DJI_0264.jpg

Not only that, but there was a beautiful reef that lined most of its coastline below breathtaking cyan and turquoise waters. This island jsut has so many beautiful things all over the place no matter where you look!

DJI_0283.jpg

I also took some shots of the resort that you saw previously as well as this above one that is right above the aforementioned lookout area. I just wanted to show the clarity of the waters as well as what could have been seen below them. I had never seen such clarity of water at such a depth! The seemingly abandoned pillars of concrete also gave a more mediteranean look to the area and looked like it would be so much fun to dive in!

Finally, we get to the pool! What a way to end such a beauty filled day! The sun was so hot and so were the nights in Curaçao so the the pool was such a pleasure at night. Luckily, unlike most times, the pool area was not that filled and the infinity pool made the sunset look so much more magical.

IMG_6003.JPG

We took in all of the sun until it crossed the horizon from the view of the infinity pool. This was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. Everything felt like it culminated to this point in perfection. In the moment, nothing could ever be more perfect and I took it in very intently.

IMG_6039.JPG

Once the sun was gone and the magical pool lights came on we ended the evening at one of the restaurants on the resort which turned out to be an even more perfect way to end the day but that is for another post! Dreams Curaçao was so aptly named as that day felt like it was made of dreams for sure. Thanks for coming along! Cheers!
