I want to dedicate this review to a wonderful city called Bonnieux. We went deep into the mountains, where there are quite a lot of beautiful medieval cities. In addition, my love for small medieval towns comes into play here.
We decided to spend a night there. In fact, we did not immediately choose this city and the hotel in it. When we were making our plan, we thought a lot about how we could plan our tour so that we could see all these small towns before dark. So, we decided not to waste time on the road and settle as close to the cities as possible.
Since these towns are very small and located very close, figuratively speaking, on every hill in this area. It didn’t matter to us which hotel to choose, as long as there were hotels in these towns. And it turned out that there are hotels, but they are not always cheap due to demand. Our search was narrowed down to a Hotel Restaurant Panoramique Cesar.
We walked around the city of Bonnieux in the evening on the day of our arrival and the next day. Therefore, we were able to capture this city at different times of the day and each time the city was revealed to us from a different side. Bonnieux is an amazing little town. It has sunk into my soul and truly stuck in my memory.
Let's start the tour of this cute and, for me, little gloomy town, which has preserved the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Since the hotel is located on a mountain, almost on the upper tier of the city, in order to start the tour we needed to go down the stairs.
The streets here are the best. Steps descend, then again ascend, then turn right, left, sometimes they lead to dead ends, and sometimes - to stunning views. Each street is a special little world of its own. And each one lives differently: people can live in a fortress wall, or almost in a rock. Or in a protruding huge bay window, or with a lawn and a view of the Luberon.
Half of the streets are steps from edge to edge, and you definitely need to be prepared for the fact that you will walk steeply up or steeply down these steps, but they are very steep.
There are not many attractions here in the conventional sense. And they are not really needed: what you pass by will be enough.
In the evening, we were very tired and didn’t really want to walk around the city. We decided to just leave the room and walk to the nearest store. Amazed by such gorgeous views there, we both decided to take a walk around the city and only then return to our hotel.
The sky is simply hypnotizing to look at. And the old town adds color to this picture. Maybe because we didn’t stay in these towns overnight and just walked around them during the day, we didn’t see such beauty anywhere else.
Under the light of the lamps, the city seemed very mysterious to us, and it was not at all scary to walk along these deserted streets, because voices and music were always heard somewhere in the distance since there are a lot of cafés where tourists and locals gather in the evening.
At such moments, it seems that this is a portal of time, and you are walking through a real medieval city. And actually, we constantly felt an amazing feeling in this trip.
It is very quiet and calm here and there is no feeling of danger or that something could happen to you. The city lives its daily life, which you find yourself passing through, and your presence in this life does not change anything here. Peace and quiet. Local residents are sitting in a restaurant, drinking wine and talking loudly about something. French speech only adds color to this palette of emotions that we experience.
We haven’t walked in the evenings with such pleasure for a long time. I honestly admit that this was one of the most unforgettable evenings of our trip in Provence.
We continue to walk along the stone streets of this ancient town. And we decided that we needed to go up to the church, because from there should be an even more stunning view. The road to the old church is very picturesque. Just look at the pine trees that grow on the mountain. The view from here is good, but not nearly better than from the balcony of our hotel.
On the observation deck you can see a map of the city and what exactly is located and where. But it’s still worth climbing here, at least for this sight. This is what the old 12th century church looks like from the mountain side. We walked around here a little more and decided to go down.
The city has preserved many buildings from the 15th to 18th centuries in their original form and architecture. It has preserved many residences for church ministers who lived here in those days. I suggest you just take a walk along these streets with us.
In Bonnier you need to walk, walk, and walk again. Bonnier is designed and adapted for walking. There are not one or two options here, but for every taste and for any purpose. Into cedar forests, along amazing streets, on a bike around the surrounding area or observation platforms. From the top of the town there are wonderful panoramas of the entire “golden triangle” of Provence: Bonnier - Menerbes - Lacoste.

Žibintų šviesoje miestas mums atrodė labai paslaptingas, ir visai nebuvo baisu vaikščioti šiomis užpustytomis gatvėmis, nes kažkur tolumoje visada girdėjosi balsai ir muzika, nes čia daug kavinių, kuriose vakare renkasi turistai ir vietiniai gyventojai.
Tokiomis akimirkomis atrodo, kad tai yra laiko portalas, o tu vaikštai po tikrą viduramžių miestą. Ir iš tiesų, šioje kelionėje nuolat jautėme nuostabų jausmą.
Čia labai tylu ir ramu, nėra jokio pavojaus jausmo ar kad tau gali kas nors nutikti. Miestas gyvena savo kasdienį gyvenimą, pro kurį tu atsiduri praeidamas, ir tavo buvimas šiame gyvenime čia nieko nekeičia. Ramybė ir tyla. Vietiniai gyventojai sėdi restorane, geria vyną ir garsiai apie kažką kalbasi. Prancūzų kalba tik nuspalvina šią patiriamų emocijų paletę.
Jau seniai su tokiu malonumu nevaikščiojome vakarais. Nuoširdžiai prisipažįstu, kad tai buvo vienas įsimintiniausių mūsų kelionės Provanse vakarų.
Toliau vaikštome akmeninėmis šio senovinio miestelio gatvelėmis. Ir nusprendėme, kad mums reikia pakilti iki bažnyčios, nes iš ten turėtų atsiverti dar nuostabesnis vaizdas. Kelias į senąją bažnyčią labai vaizdingas. Tik pažvelkite į kalne augančias pušis. Iš čia atsiveria geras vaizdas, bet anaiptol ne geresnis nei iš mūsų viešbučio balkono.
Apžvalgos aikštelėje galite pamatyti miesto žemėlapį ir sužinoti, kas ir kur tiksliai yra. Tačiau vis tiek verta čia užlipti, bent jau dėl šio reginio. Taip nuo kalno pusės atrodo senoji XII a. bažnyčia. Dar šiek tiek čia pasivaikščiojome ir nusprendėme leistis žemyn.
Mieste yra išlikę daug XV-XVIII a. pastatų, išsaugojusių savo originalią formą ir architektūrą. Mieste išlikę daug bažnyčios tarnautojų, kurie čia gyveno tais laikais, rezidencijų. Ir jums siūlau tiesiog pasivaikščioti šiomis gatvėmis kartu su mumis.
