Kozi Wierch owes its name to the chamois that often roam around in its area. The shepherds from the Gąsienicowa Valley called the peak Black Walls. Interestingly, it is the highest mountain located entirely in Poland, and its height is 2,291 m above sea level. It is located on the ridge of Orla Perć, between the Gąsienicowa Valley and the Five Polish Ponds Valley. In summer, most tourists reach the peak by following the difficult Orla ridge, while in winter the most traffic is generated by the trail from Piątka.
The route to Kozi Wierch (the first recorded ascent) was first climbed by Eugeniusz Janota and Maciej Sieczka in 1867. It is probable that shepherds and hunters had already climbed the peak from the Valley of Five Polish Ponds much earlier. The winter conquest of the peak was recorded on April 3, 1907, by Mariusz Zaruski and Józef Borkowski. It was a ski ascent, at that time one of the greatest achievements in Tatra skiing
Kozi Wierch zawdzięcza swoja nazwę kozicom, które dość często hasają w jego okolicy. Natomiast pasterze z Doliny Gąsienicowej nazywali szczyt Czarnymi Ścianami. Co ciekawe, jest on najwyższą górą całkowicie ulokowaną na terenie Polski, a jego wysokość wynosi 2291 m n.p.m. Znajduje się na grani Orlej Perci, pomiędzy Doliną Gąsienicową i Doliną Pięciu Stawów Polskich. Latem większość turystów osiąga szczyt podążając trudną granią Orlej, natomiast zimą największy ruch generuje szlak od Piątki.
Po raz pierwszy drogę na Kozi Wierch (pierwsze odnotowane wejście) pokonał Eugeniusz Janota wraz z Maciejem Sieczką w 1867 r. Jest prawdopodobne, że już dużo wcześniej na szczyt wchodzili z Doliny Pięciu Stawów Polskich pasterze i myśliwi. Zimowe zdobycie szczytu odnotowano 3 kwietnia 1907 r., należy ono do Mariusza Zaruskiego i Józefa Borkowskiego. Było to wejście narciarskie, w owych czasach jedno z największych osiągnięć w narciarstwie tatrzańskim.
