Hi everybody. How are you? Last Sunday, I took a historical tour of Menteng's streets. For two hours I followed this tour on foot. All places are quite close together, but walking and listening to historical stories makes me sweat. On this Menteng route, what will I visit?
I visited a park that has existed since the Dutch colonial era. The name of this park is Suropati Park. This garden was perfected by the Kubats into a garden. Originally, this park was a field. Today, this park is often referred to as the friendship garden. Because in this park there are several prizes from 6 countries in Southeast Asia. In addition, this park is named after one of the national heroes who succeeded in expelling Dutch colonialism. Lucky Suropati. Fortunately, Suropati was given the title of a national hero in 1975.
To this location, we can't see. Because this house cannot be opened to the public. But, my tour guide showed me some parts of the house. I was amazed by the house. Made very modern and has sophisticated facilities. Oh yes, the house is near Suropati Park.
This statue is located opposite Suropati Park. This statue is made of bronze with a picture of Prince Diponegoro carrying a spear in his hand. As well as riding a horse whose legs are lifted. From the information we got, the statue was a grant from a large company in Indonesia. The statue was inaugurated in 2005. The statue was made based on a painting by a well-known artist in Indonesia.
This building was formerly known for the legend of Satan's Loji and the trail of the Freemasons. This building is a classic building around Menteng. Previously this building was called the Adhuc State Building and was believed to be one of 25 lodges in Jakarta in 1930. Maybe you are confused with the word lodge. Loji is the designation for a meeting place for members of the Freemasons. While the Freemasons are a very well-known organization in the Dutch colonial period. This organization aims to build a brotherhood with high moral standards. That's all the information I got about the tours I followed.
One of the places that caught my attention was a church called GPIB Paulus, which is not far from Suropati Park. This church is registered as a cultural heritage object from the Netherlands. The distinctive feature of this church is that it has many pillars. And at the end of the tower, there is an ancient clock and a statue of a chicken. For the chicken statue to be a compass or weather vane. This building is dominated by white paint. While the shape of the roof is like a pyramid. The shape of the roof like that is characteristic of buildings made during the Dutch colonial period.
This building is a historic building in Jakarta. The building which was built in 1927 is the official residence of Admiral Maeda. This building was designed by an architect named Johan Frederik. Why is this building a history for Indonesia? Because, in the house, there was a historical event. If there were no such events, there would be no turning point for an independent Indonesia. In this house, the text of the Proclamation of Indonesian independence was made. I am touched by this history.
Maybe you asked why the school building was included in the tour that I took. I want to explain because the former president of America went to school here. Several years ago, the news was very famous. Who else if not Barak Obama? Yes, Barak Obama went to school in Indonesia when he was little. Not long Barak Obama went to school here. Barak Obama attended school here for about 3 years. For the incident in front of this building, there is a statue of Barak Obama when he was a child.
This park has an area of 2.9 hectares. This park is one of the favorite places for Jakartans. In this park, there are 30 different gardens. In addition, in this park, there are 44 infiltration wells that can help absorb rainwater. Previously, this park was a soccer field designed by Kubatz. Here is my story about sightseeing in several historical places in Jakarta. Are you interested in my story? Don't forget to comment and look forward to my next story.
