In this post, I’d like to share with you all about our visit to the Namdroling Monastery in Coorg, Karnataka. This is popularly known as the Golden Temple. It is the largest teaching centre of Tibetan Buddhism. The architecture is majestic and ornate.

There is no entry fee for the monastery. But you will have to hand your shoes over at the entrance if you want to enter the main temple and they charge you INR 3 (0.037 USD) on each pair of shoes, so make sure to carry some change along. It is best to visit the place during the weekdays, because on the weekends the place is flocked with people. It gets difficult to take good pictures without people bombing them. And it is also a little noisy due to lots of people being around.

You can watch the ritualistic prayer and proceedings of the monks from a distance. It is a very calming experience and we had a nice time.

We were spellbound by the beauty of the architecture and fresco paintings here that depict the Tibetan history and mythology.

There is a flea market right at the entrance point of the campus. And there are many stores run around this area. We shopped for things at very reasonable prices. I bought some sling bags and shirts at INR 350 each. There were long gowns for INR 550 (6.70 USD) too. We had a nice time shopping.

Finally, we visited a Tibetan restaurant at the Food Street near the temple. They had some good steamed Beef Momos that went really well with the chilli sauce.

After this, we headed to the room for a quick change and went to the Raja’s Seat Park, where we tried an adventure activity- the Rocket Ejector. The next day, we rode to the Abbey Waterfalls and the Mandalpatti hills. More about the rest of the experience on the next blog.

That’s all for this post. If you got till the end of the post, thank you for reading! Do drop a vote and a comment if you liked it. And of course, a reblog if you loved it. ✨

It's really a great tour around the country
I hope you enjoyed your stay there

Absolutely, we had a great time here!

It's been ages I haven't been here. Last time went just after covid but it was closed for visitors and then was always on a short trip to Coorg and couldn't visit. Lots of memories here and the momo's is simply a must on every visit to Coorg right?

Did you happen to visit Coorg Cuisine?

I visited this place after 2 years. It was entirely packed with people.
I did not visit Coorg Cuisine in particular but tried other places serving the local pork delicacies.

What a wonderful and colorful building, Nice to see the structure of Golden Temple
