Abandoned places and old trees at the most remote area of Spain

in Worldmappin8 months ago

Good morning everyone, we hope everyone is doing well!

This is our last post from Spain, which Steffen visited this summer. If you are curious how it went, you can check our two previous posts.

As already mentioned, we went from outskirts to the city of Zaragoza. There we planned to stay for a week, so Luis could attend his rehabilitation. However, the high temperatures reaching 46 degrees, which was unbearable, and we could not even sleep during the night. We tried to pass the time with delicious Spanish food and watching a lot of Netflix documentaries. By coincidence, we stumbled upon a scene in one of them, where my friend from New Zealand was having a special Māori performance in the Queen’s palace.

Right after the last rehabilitation session on Friday, we were ready to escape the heat and to return to village Mochales, where temperatures were more moderate. I was happy to see my old new friends again, therefore we made a small celebration with barbecue. We made a special dish called Chuletōn.

We were happy that we were able to enjoy outside exploring the canyon and swimming in the natural lakes.

Nature here is amazing, and so are the living organisms in it. One time when I went on the walk I saw big birds, vultures flying and searching for food.

Luis wanted to introduce me to his uncle. He has a very interesting house which is situated half under the rock. Interestingly, he build the whole house by himself. The materials for building it, he found and collected from the nearby abandoned mountain castles. After showing us the place, we were again having a small barbecue with the family in the garden. The party was going on the whole night.

During the last party, Luis’s uncle Goyo agreed to show us some ancient places where shepherds were being. In the morning we were ready to start the journey. For that, we took a special jeep, which is a real gem! I was astonished by the beauty of the landscape, old huts and enormous oak trees. After this beautiful experience which I will never forget, we needed to go back to Zaragoza as my Spanish holidays were over. The vacations were for me a really nicely spent, where I made a lot of new friends and also learn many new things about life and Spanish culture and history.
