House of Ninjas 2024 Series Review

2023 was a year with some pretty amazing series and 2024 came in strong i dare to say. Ofc to be completely real, we have also seen some of the Worst movies during 2023-2024, yeah you heard me Marvel,DC and Netflix. Some awesome series to check out in 2024 are The Brother Sun and the second season of Tokyo Vice, you can read my reviews as well if you click the links.

So on February 15 of this year, a new Netflix original was released called House of Ninjas. House of Ninja is set in modern Japan and follows the Tawara family which seemingly looks like a normal Japanese family but soon enough we realize that they are a ninja family, descendants of the legendary Hattori Hanzo.

The family consists of 6 members, The father Souichi (Yôsuke Eguchi known for the live-action Rurouni Kenshin), the mother Yoko, the grandmother Taki, the eldest son Haru, the younger daughter Nagi and the younger son. The family used to do secret missions for the government but apparently after a certain mission they lost their eldest son Gaku and that's when they decided to stop.

Thus, even though they try to live as a normal family, most of the family members like the mother and daughter still miss the Shinobi missions and thrill. Some events took place and an opposite ninja clan that supposed to have been perished returned with a greater master plan to conquer Japan and there was nobody who could stop them except the Tawara family.

What I Liked and What I Didn't

In general, i really enjoyed the show, the story is interesting and finally, we get to see a ninja series! The language is both Japanese and English which is also cool, even if it was only Japanese i would be more than happy, as you get a different vibe. The actors are all doing a great job and I think there is a good balance between drama and comedy.

Regarding the whole ninja vibe and fight scenes i think they did a pretty amazing work highlighting it. Also, there are some really funny scenes around ninja skills and techniques that take the seriousness away for a while. Now the only negative is the character development. Mostly the character development is around Haru and maybe a little bit around Gaku and Souichi but i hope that if season 2 comes out we will get to see more. If not then it will be quite negative and to tell you the truth even in season one they could do more further developing the other characters as well.

Overall, i think the series is quite interesting and enjoyable. Especially if you like the Japanese culture and ofc ninjas then this is a must watch in my opinion. If you don't like any of the above though, simply don't watch it i would suggest!
