Today's coin is another recent addition to the stack that I got along with the beautiful Europa coin I showed you a few days ago
Sure, it's not as sexy but still a pretty neat piece that came in its very own box and shit from the Canadian mint.
Let's check it out
The box is made from a leathery material, probably fake..at least it feels that way. But still more than good enough for a pleb like me that usual gets old dirty cum stained coins:
Now, the coin didn't come with a certificate of authenticity (at least mine didn't come with one) but it did have a small paper saying "inspected by no 12", whatever the fuck that is
Ok enough teasing, let's see the actual piece!

A quick Google search revealed this coin was minted in 1979 to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the Griffon, a sailing vessel built by French explorer and fur trader RenΓ©-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle to sail the Great Lakes
Le Griffon was constructed and launched at or near Cayuga Island on the Niagara River and was armed with seven cannons. The exact size and construction of Le Griffon is not known but many researchers believe she was a 45-ton barque. She was the largest sailing vessel on the Great Lakes up to that time. La Salle and Father Louis Hennepin set out on Le Griffon's maiden voyage on 7 August 1679 with a crew of 32, sailing across Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan through uncharted waters that only canoes had previously explored. source

When it comes to silver we have the usual 0.500 alloy found in these commemorative Canadian coins, with a total weight of 23.3276 g.
And much like other Canadian coins it has an annoying super mirrory finish that becomes a pain in the ass when you try to take a pic of them. I tried my best π
All in all a really beautiful coin. If you love ship themed coins it's probably a must!
I bought it for just 10 % over spot so I think I did good considering how it came with a box and paperwork!

I actually have two of this. I'm just waiting for the Government funded University archeological expedition to finally locate the wreck at a theoretical location of the Griffon somewhere on the St. Lawrence river. I think they are still waiting for some freshly printed Canuck bucks to fund the Department's new metal detector. It's going to be another Summer wasted unless the faculty can rebuild the current archeology team into a Diversified woke one. π

The commemorative coins of Canada are all wonderful! Some are only 50% silver, but there are plenty made of 925 silver! They are equally beautiful as well!

The ship is pretty nice. It's too bad that there wasn't a certificate but the inspect by 12 is a weird paper to include. It doesn't really give itself to be very legitimate but the silver piece does look real.
