[WE 143] Offer To AUS or To Pursue My Personal Plans?

WE 143.jpg

Choose to study for four years or suffer a lifetime since you didn't finish college.

Admit it or not, the statement in the quotation above is only one of the many pieces of advice we often hear from our parents and elders. Maybe not in international readers, but more likely in Asian parents. My mom always reminds me that I should study hard to provide a promising future. My aunt earns a competitive salary in Singapore because she has a college degree. On the other hand, my uncle, who is supporting my studies, was able to fund my college because he also has a college degree. This mentality has sadly become part of our country's trashy and unfair standards.

For instance, one of the companies from the Philippines in the picture had a job posting where they urgently needed a college graduate to be their cashier. Imagine studying for more than four years in fields like nursing, marketing, engineering, and the like, but you'll only get this job. Anyway, I wasn't trying to belittle those cashiers anywhere in the world; it's just that I know it's too difficult to accept the harsh reality.

We all know that getting or acquiring a job is one of the biggest problems in the country. For example, you are a fresh graduate from a four-year degree course, but the company will only consider you if they require someone with experience. How will you get the knowledge they need if you know you're a fresh graduate? But even if you know you have the skills and expertise they need, some might still turn down your application because you need a college degree. But wait, there's more. Although let's assume you're hired for a position with high standards, some companies would only offer you less than the minimum wage, which is unjustifiable for your work.

In conclusion, the main reason most Filipinos are not growing financially is something other than ours. It's about the trashy Philippine standard (not all) with low-paying salaries.

That's why whenever my classmates discuss what our work would be after more than five years, I usually say that I don't want to work locally. I remember one of my classmates this sem asked about what I wanted to pursue as a career after finishing my course. I'm proud to be a Filipino, but I only have the means to work in local businesses here in the Philippines if they have a competitive salary. By the way, I'm not generalizing that the companies have trash standards with low wages.

Since then, I have realized that I want to work with international clients in a remote set-up. I'm willing to work independently and can learn administrative tasks and enhance my content writing skills more. As an introvert who is literate about technology, I have the potential to grow and develop my future career as a virtual assistant. All I need to do is upskill and continuously prepare to make my first six digits of monthly earnings.

However, my cousin and I were contracted to work in Australia since my uncle was planning to reside in the Philippines after we finished our chosen four years course in the Philippines. My parents were quite pressuring me about this matter, and they told me I would create an excellent future for them once I got the chance to work outside the Philippines. But the problem is, I don't have plans to accept it since I was worried about my dog. I also changed my mind since I don't want to work as a farmer because I want to pursue my plan as a VA once I get the skills and ID and secure a client. Anyway, I'm still determining his offer to be a farmer in Australia since he stated once that we would study again if we could get there, which I still need to find out.

I chose my path to be a VA since it is aligned with the knowledge that my bachelor's degree offers. My major in business administration is banking, and I took that because I want to learn more about the coverage of the banking industry. I'm planning to apply the lessons I learned in VA, and I'm planning to add additional skills. I already knew that AI would replace my major, which is banking, so it's better to upskill in advance rather than regret it for a lifetime.

So far, I'm currently learning about copywriting, e-mail advertising, and SEO writing. I already have the resources to understand the nature of their responsibilities. Still, I can only get a client on Upwork and verify my identity on different platforms if I have a government-issued ID. But the problem is, I still need an ID since it usually takes more than a year to get it. While finishing my studies here in the Philippines and making my acquaintances proud, I will start creating my portfolio and offer copywriting services in small businesses for free in exchange for testimonials.

About my decision on the title, I want to do them both. What do you think? I know that there are a lot of Australian citizens here, so I need your opinions on whether I should accept his offer. I guess that I could take the opportunity my uncle offers in Australia while doing my virtual work part-time. I can leave my dog with my family since I'm sure that they will treat them right. Other than that' I'm also not interested in entering through a relationship which is an hindrance to accept his offer abroad. That's a wrap, and I hope you didn't get bored.

This is really the harsh reality here in Philippines. The standard on getting a job is just too high and some even asking for experience, like what the hell. May mawawala ba if mag accept sila ng new worker and dun nalang matuto sa company nila. Talang s ibang bansa naku naku. Bat kasi masyanong ano ee, al mo yun, maano ee! Haha

True haha dapat te sa skills sila nagbabase no haha. Kaya ang target ko talaga is kumuha lang ng exp rito pero ang target ko is makatrabaho sa international company or client haha

Sheesh pinas yan eihh..high standards pero low quality ang sahod..😪..fight lang soon makakamit mo din yan. Enjoy and have fun on your way in acheiving your dreams..

Thank you! Ganon naman talaga sa Pinas pero not all haha. Yung tipong anlaki ng tuition mo sa pagiging nurse for instance tapos sahod mo pang-minimum wage lang hahahahha

Yay! 🤗
